Why do european car manufacturers recomend changing your oil only every 6000 miles while in the US its 3000?

When you buy a new car you need to bring your car back to the dealer only every 10000km or 6000 miles for the scheduled oil change to protect your warranties.

Is the quality of motor oil that much better in europe, or they just want to sell more oil here? Why do european car manufacturers recomend changing your oil only every 6000 miles while in the US its 3000?
The trend is movement towards extended drain intervals. Europe has a head start. In my view, American petroleum oil producers have a financial motive for promoting the 3000 mile oil change myth.

Quality synthetic oil can perform for extended intervals far beyond 3000 miles and has been proven to do so by independent oil analysis many times.

Some new high end American cars are now factory filled with Synthetic Oil.

Some come with oil life sensors and are averaging 8000 to 10000 miles before they indicate a need for a change. Oil life sensors respond to driving habits, and trigger based on factors pre loaded into the systems computer, not oil analysis. I personally would not run a petroleum oil that long.

Up until the mid 90's only a few synthetic oils were on the market. Now they all have one. One of the reasons is the trend toward longer drain intervals recommended by car makers. Why do european car manufacturers recomend changing your oil only every 6000 miles while in the US its 3000?
this has nothing to with where your particular vehicle was manufactured but with which oil is recommended by that manufacturer. most older car only need to use ';regular'; oil, which is a petroleum based product, and should be changed every 3000 miles. on the other hand, if your car requires ';synthetic'; oil, a man made product, you need to change it every 6000 - 7000 miles. now, some car manufacturers suggest you change your synthetic oils 10000 to 15000 miles apart. this is simply stupid. synthetic oil just does not last that long. the detergents in the oil have a life expectancy and they begin to break down increasing the moisture (water) level in the oil. as every one knows, water and oil do not mix. with a higher moisture content in the oil more areas are not being protected by the oil and greater wear is taking place on your engine, shortening its life.
because they believe or have this idea their oil holds its viscosity better// myth change all oil foreign or domestic 3000 miles religiously
Oil change recommendations vary from vehicle to vehicle %26amp; it has nothing to do with the country of origin. It has a lot to with actual driving conditions, as well as the type of engines %26amp; what type of oil is recommended.

Many American Manufacturers recommend 5000-7500 intervals for normal driving conditions, however maintenance schedules recommend more frequent intervals for certain driving conditions.
Very good question!!!

Somebody is either getting greedy or somebody is dumb.

I'll stick with the 3000 in the meantime. Its the cheapest best thing that you can do for your car.
well Us cars do not recommend 3000 miles. Look in the owners manual. It is that the European auto engineers are about 10 years ahead of the U.S. Most European vehicle recommend synthetic oil for one. And the driving habits are way different over there. But the main reason is U.S. greed. We should have been changing our oil 5-6k miles 5 years ago and it is just now becoming the standard.
I don't know of any US auto company that recommends 3000 mi. oil changes. That is a sales tool of oil companies. Most companies say 5000 mi. at most. Some are 7500 mi. under certain conditions.
