What type of engine oil do i use for my car?

hello, i have a mazda capella 1987 auto, what engine oil do i use for it thanksWhat type of engine oil do i use for my car?
I prefer QS brand for conventional oil, and Mobile for synthetic, I run synthetic in my diesel and conventional in my gas vehicles.

Your engine most likely calls for either a 5W-30 or 10W-30 oil, either will serve well if it is not marked on the oil filler cap and you do not have an owners manual to refer to.

If you live and drive in an extremely hot region then you should use a 15W-40 oil, if winter temperatures are well below freezing go with the 5W-30. And as others have noted use a heavier oil ( higher number ) if your engine tends to burn oil - if it requires the addition of more than 1 quart of oil between changes on a 5000 mile interval then it is time to move to the next heavier oil, but do not go any heavier than 15W-40 in any event and switch back to 10w-30 in winter if temperatures ever drop below freezing. What type of engine oil do i use for my car?
What type of engine oil depends on a number of factors, the climate were you live, the miles on your car and type of engine. lets say your in texas and your car has 100K miles cuz its old as hell, well its hot down here so I would recommend a higher weight oil because the viscosity would be thinned out dude to the heat so like a 40w in the summer time in Tx, and synthetic is always a good idea, and if you have a big taped camshaft you need oil that has a lot of zinc in it, soo in short assumingg the possibilities of were you are and what the car has on it I would recommend pennzoil 40w full synthetic, but if it has like a smoking problem then you need an oil to seal up your valve gides cuz the leak after a while.
Mazda Capella is related to Mazda 626 or Ford Probe in US Market in same time period. I don't know where in the world you are, but in most areas of the US I'd think 10W-30 or 10W-40 would work fine, with higher viscosity numbers appropriate for higher temperatures.

What google did find me is a bit of instruction with regard to valve lash noise, which may be part of the consideration if you have valve noise and are questioning whether the wrong oil is part of the problem, maybe something like this is your solution...

Oh and some of the Mazda Capellas had diesels, and if you have a diesel, you should know that you need to make sure you get oil properly rated for Diesel engine.
sounds like you have a mazda ';FE'; engine likely( i don't know for sure what came in the capella). use 10w-30 for normal temps. for hot climate try a 10w-40 or 20w-50. for very cold a 5w-30 should do. if you have the FE turbo engine like in the 626 use 30 weight oil only for warm climate or 40-50 weight for very hot. for cold 10w-30 should do. use quality oils.
it doesnt really matter aslong as your consistent about using the same grade. and staying on top of your oil changes. also checking your oil once a week. but for basics most cars use 10w30 and thats fine with them. yes you could use thicker oil to help you stop burning oil, but thatll only last so long.
Look to see what the manufacture recommends. It should either be printed on the oil filler cap itself or on a sticker under the hood. The owners manual will also have the recommendation.
you know I would use a 5w30 motor oil in area's the temp stays mild and 10w40 where it gets warmer. it will work fine and you will get good results.
ALWAYS USE 10w-30
I suggest Valvoline Max Life
use 10-40 grade oil, if the car burns oil... or heavier oil, 20-40 wt oil
most cars from that era used 10-30. always use manufacturers recommendation.
Anything made by Amsoil
Look in the owners manual.
use 50w pennzoil
10w30 will work just fine.
check the owners manual
