Are you losing oil? Have you pulled the dip stick to check the oil level?The oil light indicates a low pressure problem which could be a bad oil pump. It is not an oil level light. The real bad news is that by the time the pressure gets low enough to trigger the light you are already doing damage to the bearings from not enough oil being pumped to them.My 2004 BMW oil lamp is popping on and off. If there are no signs of an oil leak and the light is turning on and off then it means that it is getting close to time for an oil change. eventually the light will stay on and the only way to turn it off is to change the oil and follow the procedure to turn of the light. you can find all this information in your owners manual
Check the dipstick and see if you oil is good. If it is then you might want to replace the sensor. BMW's are bad for the oil sensors to go out. Sometimes you can flick it and it will stop blinking.
