How do you drain oil from your car yourself?

Before starting, ensure you are on level ground. Ensure you are in a safe location and can easily and safely get underneath the car. Be visible to anybody driving by. For yoru first time, have a friend help you or let someone know what you are about to do. Unscrew the top where you put your oil in. Have an oil catcher available (you can buy from any auto parts store). Put your oil catcher underneath where your oil plug is (under the car) (find the oil plug according to yoru auto manual). Go under your car and unscrew the oil plug. It's going to be messy. Oil will begin pouring out the hole into your oil catcher. Wait until all the oil is poured out. (now is also a good time to change your oil filter - but that's another question). Rethread the oil plug - do NOT overtighten. According to your manufacturer's manual, put the proper oil back in (i.e., 10-40, 10-30, etc). You pour it back in where you unscrewed the cap at the beginning. Put in the amount of quarts your manual states. Check your oil dipstick to ensure you've put in the proper amount (not too little, not too much). Good luck! You can do it and save yourself a lot of money. How do you drain oil from your car yourself?
open the drain plug located underneath the car's oil pan.How do you drain oil from your car yourself?
tell my husband to do it :)
Look underneath the car's engine, at the lowest point, and you'll find a drain plug (this plug will be on the bottom of the oil pan). It will either have a six-sided (hex) head, or it may be internally wrenching, where you'll need an ';Allen wrench'; to loosen and remove it. It's best to do this immediately after the engine has been thoroughly warmed up, but a word of warning here...be really careful, because the oil will be HOT. Place a suitable sized oil drain pan underneath the drain plug, remove the plug, and drain the oil, again being careful not to get any of the hot oil on your hands. Having the engine thoroughly warm will allow for more of the old oil to drain out, thereby reducing the possibility of old dirty oil being mixed with the new oil. Allow about 20 or 30 minutes for as much oil to drain out as possible. Then, reinstall the drain plug in the bottom of the oil pan. If possible, get a maintenance manual from the auto manufacturer, and using a torque wrench, tighten the plug to the manufacturer's recommended torque. It's also standard practice to replace the oil filter whenever you change the oil, so again using the manufacturer's manual, locate and replace the filter. After you've reinstalled the drain plug and replaced the oil filter, then reservice the engine oil system with the recommended amount of oil.
You undo the sump plug. Catch oil in container so that it does not go into our water ways. Check to see how much oil your car takes from empty to full and put the sump plug back into car (had moron boyfriend that did not and he could not work out why car took over 20 litres of oil - derrrrr - when it was only supposed to take 3) fill car to capacity - most important - do not overfill.
First you elevate the car either via drive up ramps or jack stands. Next make sure the car is cool (not a hot engine or you could get burnt). Climb under the car and locate the oilpan (usually a large rectangle shaped flat piece of metal with a bolt on it at the underside). Helps if you have never changed oil to get a book on your car such as Chilton or Hayes manuals from a auto parts store. Use the appropriate sized socket wrench and remove the oil pan plug. The second that plug is out it will be drainign all the oil from your motor, so make sure you have some type of container to drain the oil into and do not let it just drain onto the ground.

Now the oil is out of your car :) Replace the plug making sure it is snug and tight, and continue on by changing your filter or just adding new oil depending on what your trying to accomplish.
adding to existing helpful points, if you have front of the car elevated, more oil will drain out, then when the drain plug and new oil filter are fitted, put 1/2 a litre less than your car engine requires, then put the car on a level surface (can drive or role depending on situation), and top up to full, carefully making sure you don't overfill.

the old oil which you carefully drained into the draining container needs to be taken to an approved dumping site (some local mechanics will take it, just pour into old oil container that can be reclosed).
If you don't know how to do it, you shouldn't do it.
Take off the oil cap, have your car on ramps, locate the sump plug and remove, allow oil to drain completley, remove the oil filter, take new oil filter and rub some oil around the sear, screw it on, replace the sump-plug and then fill with fresh oil...the amount required will be in the owners manual. and then replace the oil cap - run the car for 2 mins. Check the oil level...if ll good - well done, youve changed ur oil!
Jack the car up and remove the sump plug easy really but make sure you have something to catch it in(oil) as it comes out like a tap for the first minute or so.
Remove your oil plug from the oil pan.
no
First you take out the bolt from under the oil pan and let it drain out.

Then you put the bolt back on.

Next you take off the oil filter and let the oil drain out.

Finally you put it back on, and your all done.

You can now pour the new oil into your car.
