please recommend with rates ...thanksAny cheap and best place to get oil change for my car in kansas city ks?
there are quick lubs that do not cost much. The main thing is to have yyour oil change when it is needed. Because if you do not it will miss up your engine.Any cheap and best place to get oil change for my car in kansas city ks?
pretty much any street corner where any shop would be would be a fine place just go to yahoo local type in auto repair and you get a list of shops and a map you then decide which one is closer and call them ask for a price then call another and ask for a price you call three places you get a great ideal of what it cost are easy right
its not like theres huge price differences in oil changes

its pretty much 20-30 bucks everywhere..

My car is shaking adn the drive belt looks like its going to rip do i need high mileage oil?

what do you recommend for a 91 toyota previa? mobile 1, castrol high ml, valvoline high mileage? My car is shaking adn the drive belt looks like its going to rip do i need high mileage oil?
i do not know what the shaking and bad drive belt have to do with engine oil. mobile one is the best there is. the others are fine products too. good luck with all the shaking and ripping. My car is shaking adn the drive belt looks like its going to rip do i need high mileage oil?
First, if the car shakes when it is running it is probably missing, give your car a good tune-up with platinum plugs.... for oil I use Valvoline max life, or Pennzoil high mileage.
replace the belt first. the oil is semi-impotant, a timing belt is VERY important. as far as the shaking, how are your tires? good luck with all that!

Can to much oil cause your car engine to go out?

Too much oil in the crankcase causes the counterweights on the crankshaft to whip the oil into an air filled milkshake foam.

Any time the foamy oil is pumped to the bearings (mains, rods camshaft and lifters) the lubrication is very poor at best.

More than a quart over the fill line can spell disaster in any car or truck motor. Can to much oil cause your car engine to go out?
too much oil can make you car quit running. Too much oil makes the crankshaft splash too much oil on the cylinder walls bringing it up to where the spark plug gets fouled out therfore cannot make a spark to keep the engine running or let it start. A telltale sign of too much oil would be a mass of blue smoke when you car was running. To solve the problem you will have to take out the extra oil by draining some out and then you will have to take the spark plugs out and clean them so they will fire again properly. GLCan to much oil cause your car engine to go out?
Can it ever!! Depends on how much more than needed you have in your engine as to the ammount of damage that is done. Too much oil can cause your cadalitic converter to plug up as well as foul your spark plugs. You can destroy your pistons if you have really over filled it. There are recomendations and then there are limits listed in the owners manual. Read it

Can you mess up a Cars oil change?

Jiffy Lube wants to charge me 39.99 plus tax to do an oil change, vacuum my already clean car, and top off my already topped off fluids. Its a used car I just bought -- 2005 Nissan Sentra

If I raise my car, is an oil change as simple as

1. unscrew a bolt

2. Let the oil drip

3. tighten the bolt

4. unscrew the oil filter

5. attach the new oil filter

6 add more oil

Thats what my friend told me.

Is this right? Or can I mess up somewhere? Can you mess up a Cars oil change?
Thats right. But you could mess up by putting the wrong weight of oil in the car. If your car says to put 5W-30 weight oil in the engine and you put 10W30 instead then you might have a problem. Another common problem is that you could put to little or too much oil back in the car. Make sure you have the right amount of oil in the car. You can tell by the dipstick. Once last easy problem is that you could not tighten either to drain bolt or the oil filter enough and you would start leaking oil and loose oil pressure and blow your engine.

Changing your oil is a real money saver and is not too complicated. Just don't mess up on those common mistakes listed above and you will be fine. Can you mess up a Cars oil change?
a few suggestions put grease or oil on the seal of the new oil filter, take the oil filler cap off when draining for a smother flow of oil. and take the oil filter off while the drain plug is out to get a good drain. and PLEASE take the oil drain plug off with the RIGHT SIZE WRENCH, not a cresent wrench cause if you strip the top of that bolt you will kick yourself for a long time.
Well you have to make sure you have the correct oil filter. Make sure the seal comes off with the filter. Get the right amount of oil. Don't turn the filter the wrong way when you remove it. Don't forget to check for leaks. But yeah it's very easy, getting to the filter sometimes is not.
Your friend is right about that.
Other than putting in the right type and quantity of oil there is one thing and pretty much only one thing you can mess up. When you put the new filter on, first look at the slot where the old one came out, their will must likely be a rubber gasket or seal there, take it off, throw it away, your new filter has one on there already. If you put the new filter on without doing this you'll have two gaskets. This is called double gasketing it. Your oil will leak to no end and then you wont know why so you'll end up taking it to jiffy lube and getting screwed out of tons of money. Trust me, they have ways of screwing you over.
There are many ways to screw up an oil change. I have seen people do things like forgetting to put the drain plug back in or greatly overfill the crankcase.

Basically though, oil changes are pretty simple. The important part is properly getting rid of the used oil. Most auto parts stores will accept it for free. Just don't put it in a storm drain or down the sink drain.

Personally, I have changed oil hundreds of times but nowadays, it costs much less money than my effort to have it done at a ';quicklube joint';. They do more than just change the oil, they lube grease points, check and refill other fluids, and make other checks you may overlook. Well worth the cost.

Additional tips: Start and warm your engine on level ground then (after turning it off) let the oil drain for at least 15 minutes before replacing the drain plug (don't forget to replace it). Put oil on the filter gasket before installing and make sure to use the recommended oil.
thats all you have to do but do you have ramps? filter may be in a hard to reach location also. 40.00 is kind of high. try wal-mart. about 20.00 there.
Thats right but make sure the oil filter gasket comes off with the old filter. I learned the hard way. The old gasket was stuck to the block off center and I put the new filter on. Started the truck, lost oil pressure, lots of cat litter you get the idea. Another thing is that even though they make cars pretty dumb proof. Don't drain the tansmission fluid and add twice as much oil. My other learning experience when I was a kid working on my dads 66 chevy.
Go to walmart tire lube express they are alot cheaper

$21.88 Economy Plus (Quakerstate oil)

This is only lube oil %26amp; filter service if you dont want the car lubed just tell them not to do it but it wont change the price...

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.g鈥?/a>
The only place you could mess up is adding the wrong oil, but your right and it is that simple.

If you can use synthetic oil use it. its safer for your engine and makes it last longer.
Yes, except and jiffy lube forgets this also, make sure the bolt and filter are tight. first time you go somewhere, when getting back into the car, check and see if there is a fresh oil spot under your car.
you forgot one step put a thin layer of oil on the new oil filter gasket before you put it back on this helps when you change your oil next time the filter is easier to remove also it helps that the casket will not tear when installing it.Also grease the front end while your their.
That's pretty much it. You want to be sure to put the correct amount of oil back in, too much is just as bad as not enough. So you need to know how many quarts your car takes, because, the amount that you drain out, may be less than what it really needs, you could be a quart low, so you would need to bring the oil level up to what is required. Continue with the same grade oil also, such as 10/40, or whatever the manufacturer recommends. You can look over your own hoses, touch them and determine if they are showing wear or not. You do need to be able to get under the car, to get the filter.
your friend is right, just make sure you get the oil pan bolt tight and the filter on tight and then make sure you fill with oil until the oil stick reads full, thats all there is to it.
that's basically it. the only thing to watch is to make sure the oil filter is not too tight or too loose. after changing the oil, start the car and look underneath for anything dripping. your cost will be about $12-$15 but you have to dispose of the oil.
Yep. It's as simple as all that. Mind you for only $40, it's not such a bad deal. You'll pay about $8-$10 bucks for the filter, another $10 - $15 bucks for the oil, about 45 minutes for the oil to finish emptying the pan and another 30 minutes vacuuming out your car. You might save a total of $20 if you get the oil and filter on sale. And hopefully you already have the right sized ratchet for the plug and a filter wrench. A little helpful hint here ... put some of the fresh oil into the new filter before putting in place and smear some around the gasket. It makes for easier changing in the future.
yup your friend is right but i know people that then choke on chewing gum too

My car went for a very very long time without an oil change and even though it has had one its knocking?

It is a 2003 pontiac sunfire. As I said the oil has been changed but it is knocking really really LOUD. My son in law says it doesnt sound like a rod knocking but maybe the oil pump is shot. My Questions are where is the oil pump located, could this be the reason for the noise and could the engine totally be ruined if it is the oil pump, and about how much do you think it would cost to fix? How do I find out without spending a lot of cash. Also,

I'm scared to drive it anywhere. My car went for a very very long time without an oil change and even though it has had one its knocking?
The oil pump is in the oil pan , It has to be oil pan removed to change, About the loud knocking try to pinpoint it and see if its really the oil pump, hope this helpsMy car went for a very very long time without an oil change and even though it has had one its knocking?
If the car went too long without an oil change changing the oil all of the sudden probably killed it. running old oil sludge and other stuff gets built up in the motor. When you finally change it the new oil breaks all this stuff off (like its supposed to) but there is so much that it will clog the inlet screen of the oil pump. Then its just like running it without oil. If you are getting a loud knock its most likely a rod and it doesn't have long to live.

I worked for a company that went 50k without changing the oil in one of their delivery trucks, when if finally got changed the truck lasted 2 days before it lost oil pressure and started knocking.
I would have the car towed to a reputable repair facility and have it checked out thouroughly. Sorry, but there is no excuse for not having the oil changed regularly!! This may be a very costly lesson in vehicle maintenance.
You need to take it to a shop right now. if the pump is bad the engine well blow-up soon. if it is not the pump it might be the lifter, u can tell if the noise is at the top of the engine. if that is the case ask another question on here on how to fix that and i well tell u.
If your oil pump is shot it only takes a few miles to ruin your engine. Never heard of an oil pump knock.Any service station should just walk out and listen to it for free, but if you have a knock it's gonna cost big bucks i'm afraid.
The oil pump is in the crank case, Pumps are about $100. an up, but it's the labor that will cost alot. depending where you take it. but don't take it to a car dealership, they charge 3 to 4 times more than any mechanic. It doesn't sound like an oil pump, they seldom fail. Did you check the oil level on the dip stick, they have not put enough oil in the car?? It must be to the full line. The wrong grade of oil, can cause a knock.

Take it to a shop that does only engines, a lot cheaper. Before spending any money, have a mechanic check it first.
First, was it knocking before the oil change. If it was, changing the oil won't help it. Hard to say what your exact problem is, but oil pump alone doesn't cause knocking. Once lack of oil pressure causes furher damage, THAT'S what causes the knocking. Driving it at all will do nothing but cause further damage. At this point, there is no correct solution besides tearing the engine down.

BTW, the oil pump is located in the oil pan under the engine which on that car is a pretty big job in itself.

do any of these things do any damage to a car?Vaseline, Lotion, and Baby Oil on a car?
vaseline.Vaseline, Lotion, and Baby Oil on a car?
Only vasoline will cause damage. Dents, if you know what I mean.... :)
Takes white vinegar to remove them, ick!
Are you sure we are talking about a car?

Why would you put any of that on a car?
I doubt it...try some Dawn dish soap to cut the grease...
If you are talking about the paint work the answer is no. They are all oil based and would do not more damage than waxing your car. If anything it will help to protect the Finnish
they should be on your body parts!! not CAR!
Yes, if you mean on the paint. All of these products are petroleum based and that means they will dull the paint and dry out and crack plastic and rubber.
Just WHAT are you trying to do you your car!
well if you dont lube your 'car' up enough, it may become red and chafted.
Vaseline is petroleum jelly which could actually start to erode any rubber it comes in contact which. In general the other two won't hurt, but they won't help either.
WHATEVER YOU ARE THINKING YOU MIGHT GET CAUGHT.
What The?! why don't yah use car wax?! or better yet ear wax!

My car dashboard says ';low oil pressure..stop engine.'; What is causing this. My oil reading is 40%.?

It still sounds normal and rides the same. Anyone know the problem. 95 cadillac deville. ';Low oil pressure...stop Engine'; It also has a reading of 40% oil left. Any clues? What should I do? Will my car die?My car dashboard says ';low oil pressure..stop engine.'; What is causing this. My oil reading is 40%.?
put some oil in it you clown!

low oil pressure is a direct result from low oil level. 40% at rest probobly = 20% at idle and 0% and 3k rpm.

yes it will root the engine if you run it with no oilMy car dashboard says ';low oil pressure..stop engine.'; What is causing this. My oil reading is 40%.?
You tell us. It's your car. It's either got low oil pressure or it doesn't. The best way to do this for yourself is to install a mechanical gauge where the current oil pressure signal is coming from. See if the mechanical gauge agrees with the light. If that sensor is used to turn the fuel pumps on, then you'll have to have both on at the same time, with a tee, to do the test.

You could replace the sensor just as a shot in the dark. Your choice there.
Next time before you drive check your oil and see how low it is. And add as much oil as needed don't overfill it. When the dipstick says full or safe or safe operating range somewhere along those words then your set. And yes your car will end up needing a new engine if you run it without any oil. This is the second time this happened to someone on here and the other person it happened to now needs a new car or engine so be lucky your car has all those extra gadgets that warn you when the oil is low. All you need to do is check the dipstick once in a while when its cool is that so hard to do.
    NO IT'S FINE, KEEP DRIVING.
Oil pressure and life are two different things the oil pressure could be low due to no or very little oil or sensor problem the oil life is actually set by mileage and does not actually measure the oil at all its just a reminder mechanism. check the oil and if the oil is okay have a technician check it out to find out the problem
It could be one of two things your oil sending unit is bad or your oil pump is weak. to fix this start by changing the oil sending unit if that don't fix it change the pump and remember to use a new oil filter. good luck with that.
sounds like you have a northstar engine have the oil sending unit and the oil pump checked by a professional and then get a second oppinion it could also be that the oil pressure gage has a clog in it . top off the oil run the car until the thermostat opens at like 180 degrees f and see if it goes away first though.

My car was smoking and had low oil I just changed the oil?

should it be o.k. or since it was smoking has the damage been doneMy car was smoking and had low oil I just changed the oil?
If its smoking its probably burning oil try some stop leak and check the oil level everyday it only takes one time to do serious damage.Castrol High milage has better burn off protection but allways check your oil if you are burning oil. There are products that help it from leaking oil such as Motor oil honey and numerous others and Castrol does have 17% better burn off if you use the high milage formula just to answer in defence of the other know it all.';Chubby';.There is allso a product called engine restore that helps some with leakage. The only thing to make it quit burning oil is a ring job and most cars are not worth that much once its that far along. My car was smoking and had low oil I just changed the oil?
OK Car %26amp; Year? Engine %26amp; Mileage? Did you get a ';Low Oil Light'; (Those lights mean ';0'; Oil Pressure). If you got the Light then Smoke and Noise from the Engine a Rebuild or Replacement could be at hand.
I let my oil get too low in my old car and it smoked. I just put oil in it as soon as possible. That was about 10,000 miles ago. The damage is done, but my car is still drivable.
may be ok...or not...all u can do is keep eye on it from now on...ck your coolant too,,,and power steering fluid....and tranny fluid and brake fluid,,,and,,,and ,,and..
If it's not leaking oil and it's full but not over filled and it's smoking out the exhaust it's worn or damaged.
it might have lung cancer... for real though it depends on whether or not damage was done to its cylinder head or piston rings. if its running ok n its not smoking anymore u should be alright.
    To makinroa:

Stop Leak wont stop it from burning oil! Stop leak goes in the radiator to stop a water leak.

Back to the question: Put in some Motor Medic. It should stop the smoking or slow it down a lot.

Car using oil, but no leaks, no smoke?

My 99 Accord with 79,000 miles on it is using a quart of oil every 1800 miles or so. Its a manual transmission equipped 2.3 4cyl. It has the f23 VTEC. The car has no leaks- and it doesn't smoke at all- not at idle, not when high up in the revs, not when it starts up...none. Where the hell is my oil going?Car using oil, but no leaks, no smoke?
That's higher than average consumption but not totally unusual. Regular organic oils have a tendancy to breakdown more easily especially in rev happy hondas. Try switching to full synthetic...Red Line, Mobile 1, Royal Purple. I use about a quart between changes (10000 miles). I have 105k on the odometer on the 2.0L version in my RSX type-s. Not sure if the price of synthetic is something you can live with but it's an option. Most mechanics who know hondas will say what you're experiencing is higher than average but considered normal since no leaking or unusual smoke is apparent.Car using oil, but no leaks, no smoke?
Common on cars like Hondas. The trouble with such cars is they use small engines which have to rev high to make a reasonable amount of power...high-revving engines tend to have shorter long-term reliability do the friction associated with high-rpm operation. In the case of your car, it might have had a previous owner (assuming you didn't buy it new) that ran it hard.

With that type of oil consumption, I'd recommend and engine replacement or overhaul.
have you checked your coolant level / condition? could be a headgasket starting to leak.... a small oil leak such as yours would be hard to see smoke from tailpipe... best of luck
    its normal to do that

I have a 07 hyundai Sonata with 3000 mi. The car is 6mo. old & has the original oil which looks very dirty.?

The car is used mainly for short trips although a few longer trips have been made. Should the oil be this dirty with 3000 mi.? Does the factory install a break-in oil or do I have a problem?I have a 07 hyundai Sonata with 3000 mi. The car is 6mo. old %26amp; has the original oil which looks very dirty.?
Since its a new car, you normally will have dirtier oil with the first oil change as the engine is just getting broken in. Those short trips shorten the life of the oil and like said above they use generic oil. If you want to go 7000-10000 miles between oil changes switch to full sythentic oil, though it costs almost 3 times more then conventional oil. So, sounds like you have perfectly normal oil so far, just make sure to keep it full and your engine should last a long time. Other then keeping air in the tires, keeping oil in the engine is the most important thing with any car.I have a 07 hyundai Sonata with 3000 mi. The car is 6mo. old %26amp; has the original oil which looks very dirty.?
At 3000 miles you need to change your oil anyway.

Actually its every 3 months or 3000 miles which ever comes first. I am surprised you waited all this time to change your oil.
most manufacturers do not put in a special oil to break in vehicles. dirty oil at 3000 miles is normal. it usually will be black in color as long as you do not see any silver or metallic flakes in the oil it should be ok. fact is short trips around the city are harder on the oil than if you make long trips. recommended oil change intervals usually run about 3000 miles for city driving and around 7000 miles for highway driving

    My car is burning oil?

I recently got an oil change about 1 month/1500 miles ago and I heard the dreaded ticking noise. I took it into the shop and the mechanic said my car was burning oil, and that I would need to take it to an engine shop. SO.... how much would this fix cost?My car is burning oil?
It depends on what kind of engine and where the oil is getting in to be burned. It could be worn or broken piston rings (especially if blue smoke when lifting off the throttle). Or it could be leaking intake or exhaust valve stems.

My brother's 72 Pinto had leaky valve stems. Ford's solution at the time was to put little umbrellas on the valve stems so the oil would run off to the side instead of down the stem.

We had a 64 Econoline van that had a non-original engine (maybe from a Falcon). No blue smoke, but it must have had leaky exhaust valve guides, because the back of the van was always covered in tiny specks of oil. So basically we fed it drain oil from other vehicles. My car is burning oil?
    No you're burning oil.

  • Car with oil pump out?

My oil pump went out on my car a couple weeks ago. I can not afford to have it fixed because the labor is so expensive. It's a 97 Chevy Malibu in very good condition. Do you think I could sell it for about $1500.00 so that I could buy a different car?Car with oil pump out?
is your car front wheel drive? if so the opil pump is a pretty easy fix. As far as costs call a few good shops (dealerships) and ask for one that charges flat rate for labor and get a Quote. the nice thing about a flat rate shop is you only pay labor for what the book says. example book says it takes 1 hour to change rear brakes and it takes the mechanic 2 hours you still only pay for 1 hr of labor. Most good mechanics can do most jobs quicker than what the book says but I prefer knowing exactly what labor is going to cost me before the work is done.Car with oil pump out?
I seriously doubt that because there is no way to find out if there is damage to the lower end until the pump is replaced and the engine can be started or the pan is dropped. But you may get lucky and find somebody who will take the chances.
I would go to kelly blue book and get a good estimate on your vehicle. A lot of things determine the value of your car, mileage, condition, etc. Kelly Blue Book takes those things into account.

I personally would not pay 1500 for this car first because I have a 99 malibu that runs great and it is only worth 1000 if I am lucky.

Being that your car is two years older and not running means that you would have to take less.

Fixing an oil pump is labor intensive due to having take off the oil pan, gaskets, etc plus the price of the part.

    Hope this helps
find a friend who knows how to work on cars buy the oil pump from auto zone and paythem its not that hard to shops stick it to you when it comes to labor on that car its prolby 100 dollars for the pump give someone 50 dollars to do it i have done a oil pump on that car it took me 1 hour the shop probly said 3 hours i learned a long time ago they always add a hour or so to cover any time to take breaks and stuff
if i were u lookink to sell that car why don't u get fixed to sell it for a higher price think about a 97 malibu stills goes for 3500 in good condition. Ask yourself this will u be able to profit if u had to pay the cost?

Will it hurt my car to mix in regular motor oil with synthetic blend oil, same weight?

It will not hurt anything to mix non-synthetic with partial synthetic. None of the companies who sell partial or semi-synthetic motor actually ';spills the beans'; and tells the public the exact percentage of actual synthetic that's in the oil anyway.

For the amount they're charging you full synthetic is a better deal anyway. In a pinch it's OK to mix regular oil with synthetic. Will it hurt my car to mix in regular motor oil with synthetic blend oil, same weight?
No, it won't hurt a thing short term. If you had to add oil in an emergency situation, you'll be fine. Just change the oil as soon as you can to avoid any incompatibility issues. Will it hurt my car to mix in regular motor oil with synthetic blend oil, same weight?
No but change it only every 5 months
    no, not at all

Where is the oil pan on a 1993 thunderbird car?

unless you know what you are doing. i would advise on having it done. but the answer to your question. oil pans are always on the bottom of your engine.
you have to look for obstacles like cross member that either need to be removed or the engine lifted, this is a job best left to a professional
IF ITS ON TOP OF THE ENGINE, THERE'S TROUBLE
    Under the engine block, dumbass!
why do you think it needs to be replaced? while you're at it, get the exhaust bearings looked at. they always go out on that car.
Yeah, I would check under the car.

As far as changing it? Good luck on that one
    it is under the car

When does the oil for my car need to be changed?

I have a 2004 Dodge Neon that I don't put many miles on. I had the oil changed March 8th earlier this year when it had 30,954 miles. It now has 33,142. So only 2,188 miles since the last oil change. I have heard all the standard answers from everyone.....every 3 months, 6 months or based on miles driven. When does the oil for my car need to be changed?
Depends on how your driving the car. If your making only short trips that do not allow the car to heat up real good then keep to the 3000,3 months rule. Why? Not allowing the engine to warm up allows moisture to build up in the oil which creates sludge. Thats bad.

If your truly a light duty driver who takes the car out for a 25 mile drive 2 or 3 times a week then stretch out the oil change to 6000 miles, 6 months, it won't hurt as long you make sure it stays full.

When does the oil for my car need to be changed?
Actually time has allot to do with oil going bad. The ';ingredients'; begin to separate, and become far less effective over time. The constant heating and cooling of the oil breaks down the compounds its made of. This is what separates the cheap no name oil from the expensive brand name oil.

Ask any mechanic. If there is only one thing you do for the maintenance of you car, changing your oil on schedule is the most important thing you can ever do for it.

I highly recommend changing your oil as required by your owners manual. Changing your oil for $20 - $30 when scheduled is allot cheaper than an engine overhall/rebuild.
In my personal experience, use the miles driven as the rule for a change. A 3000 mi change is good for all vehicles, since most new cars recommend 5000 mi changes under normal driving conditions. 3000 mi changes are a safe practice, since changing your engine oil is the best and cheapest thing you can do to extend the life of your car.
check the color of the oil in their right now to see if it's black or runny or anything, some engines run a little more lean than others, and oil is the last thing you want to take a chance with, trust me, I just scrapped my car because the previous owner hadn't taken care of the engine and the block cracked. But generally time doesn't matter, depending on the condition of the oil in the first place.

    Cheers
well you should think of it like this the more its change the longer the motor last... so sooner the better but the norm is every 3000 miles which is about every few months four or five times a year.. so you have a bit of time to go yet
Every 3000 miles unless you drive in dusty, stop-'n-go conditions. otherwise, twice yearly. But hey, check 'ye 'ole manual.

And, how do you feel about letting it go too long?
Unless you are doing really hard driving - wait until the car reaches 6,000 miles between oil changes.

Oil doesn't go bad based on age. So the whole time frame thing makes no sense at all.

they say every 3000 miles. look at the oil stick, if it looks dirty, change it and a new filter.
every 3000 miles is good.if want hurt it if you wait to 3500 miles.as long as its not using oil.

Isnt there a way to drive a car on veggie oil?

yes - I am told that diesel engines will run on old fryer grease. with just minor tweaking.

the only side effect is that they smell like french fries going down the road.

I'll take that over three bucks a gallon any dayIsnt there a way to drive a car on veggie oil?
Yes there is. Check out the site www.capegreenauto.com there is good info on there, and you can email them. Lots of good links too Report Abuse
Isnt there a way to drive a car on veggie oil?
Veggy oil is too thin to use in a deisel..... cant use it in a regular gas engine. You can use kerosene in a deisel though.
vegetable oil doesn't handle heat well enough.. u r thinking of a diesel. gasoline engines are completely different. I am a truckdriver, and the best u can do for a diesel right now is a blend of vegtable oil and diesel. but the technology is growing. if u want a good career in research this on is wide open. and there is a company in missouri that can set up a diesel to run on pur veggie oil, but it takes alot of addons.the oil isn't thin enough so it has to be heated, to run thru the fuel system. there is a truck called veggie mack, in mo. that does run on pure veg. oil. go to landlinenow.com and ask them for the article they had on the veggie mack. when it ran it smelled like french fries.

PH level of general Motor Oil and Car Wash Detergent?

Does anyone know the pH level of motor oil and car wash detergent? Specifically, Castrol Motor Oil and Turtle Wax Car Wash Detergent.PH level of general Motor Oil and Car Wash Detergent?
pH of the motor oil is not easily determined unless there is water in it. See definition of what is measured with a pH meter. The water would then show a pH only if there were a water soluable species in it such as the acids which are from products of combustion. Car wash detergents are generally above 11 after adding to water.

Looking at cars and the car industry in the past all different car manafactures using specied oils for there vehicles and today there seems to be a unversal oils that are used in all types of cars instead of having individual oils .In my opinion it will affect a cars performance as manafactured oils are even specified for the type of metal used in the car engine and gearboxs. All motor industry must have specified oils as even the magnetic compressed engine conversion for petrol engines need crank case oil as iit has a all aluminuim engine block and aluminuim head so the magnetic field will not be interfered with.Does the car industry oils company's certified individual oils for the manufactured cars as in the past?
No, they just specify what grade to use.

I did a tune up on my car and when i pulled my sparkplugs out there was oil on it. so whats wrong with it?

it's an Integra 96 ls auto. if it helps i did the tune up when the car was wasn't even warm up because i didn't want to get burn. the car is not blowing smoke or anything. the coolant is fine and everything.I did a tune up on my car and when i pulled my sparkplugs out there was oil on it. so whats wrong with it?
The valve cover gasket does not keep oil from getting into the combustion chamber... SO IT ISN'T THE VALVE COVER GASKET!

Are the plugs wet (from fuel), or are they actually oily? There is a difference. Drive the car up to normal operating temperature then stop and let it cool and pull the plugs. The may be a light brown, maybe a little sooty because it is an older car. If the plug has thick OIL on them, then it is probably the valve seals allowing oil into the combustion chamber from the valve train.

I don't know what weight motor oil your runnin in your car, but the light stuff isn't going to cut it... 5-30 is too light on something 12yrs old and who knows how many miles. I would run at least a 10-40, if not 15-40 weight oil in the car first off. The thicker oil will help slightly with the issue, but not a fix to the problem....I did a tune up on my car and when i pulled my sparkplugs out there was oil on it. so whats wrong with it?
Could be a leak in the valve cover gasket. You got any smoke at all out of the exhaust at startup?
Where was the oil located? On the top side? On the side that creates the spark.

If it was on the top side, it would be the valve cover gasket is leaking oil onto the plugs.

If it was on the side where the spark is created, it's likely to be worn valve seals or bad piston rings.
you need a valve cover gasket

About wrong oil in a car?

I put in the wrong oil in my car. It was suppose to take 5w-40 but I put in 15w-40. It is smoking alot. I was just wondering if it will hurt the engine...I am getting it drained first thing in the morning...but will it hurt the engine since I had to drive it tonight?? Please help meAbout wrong oil in a car?
it will not hurt it...its a little thicker thats all...its dumb to waste the oil change,,just go back to 5 w after 3000 miles. it can NOT cause it to smoke unless you poured it on the engine instead of in itAbout wrong oil in a car?
Every one else has already said it: the 15w40 is not the cause of your engine smoking unless you poured it ON the engine instead of IN the engine OR you grossly overfilled the cranckase.

The thicker oil will not damage your engine, it will only make it harder to start. Unless hard starting becomes a real problem, I wouldn't bother changing the oil until the car was due for a regular oil change.

Are you 100% sure that the smoke you are seeing isn't simply condensation from the weather getting colder ?
It wont hurt the car. The difference in most oils is viscosity, thickness, mostly. If you are concerned try draining all the oil out and replace the oil filter .. then fill up with new oil. Most auto-parts stores can tell you what kind of oil you need and how much.
thats ok , not to worry bout it , no big deal ,dont sweat the small stuff , ,sound like the engine has lots of miles if so , add a can of STP , maby it ll smoke less
That should not be making your car smoke. They may have spilled some oil on an exhaust manifold or somewhere.

The 15w is for the weight of the oil during colder weather. It is a bit thicker. The letter W, designates the ';winter'; or cold-start viscosity, at lower temperature.

This will not be the cause of your car smoking.
I don't think that it would make your car smoke. It's just a thicker oil. Are you sure your car wasn't smoking BEFORE you changed the oil?
It's not the cause of your smoke. Did you check it wasn't overfilled?

The heavier grade oil might slow down the speed it cranks over when cold starting.

Did you actually check the exhaust smell? If it's oil smoke, it will smell like oil. As you ';lot'; have winter now, it could be just water vapour.
Its should be fine no big deal. Jumping from 5 thickness to 15 thickness for just that little of a time isnt gonna hurt any.

How tell if my car's radiator has a engine oil cooler?

i have a 1992 olds delta 88 and i need to buy i radiator but i dont know how to tell if it has a engine oil cooler on it and need to know so i get the right one.How tell if my car's radiator has a engine oil cooler?
No just a tranny coolerHow tell if my car's radiator has a engine oil cooler?
If it has an engine oil cooler, there will be 2 metal lines going to it, probably at the bottom. I have never seen a passenger car with an engine oil cooler though. Transmission cooler integrated into the radiator, yes, but not engine oil. Is this a diesel engine Olds by any chance?
First of all it doesn't have an engine oil cooler!,-- It is a transmission oil cooler (they call it a transaxle)! You can tell by looking on drivers side on end of radiator (Inside under hood), -- there are two fittings with metal tubes (about 1/4 - 3/8 inch in diameter) connected there , -- they go back to transmission! This is used by all cars with automatic transmission!

If you should have a car with a standard transmission you don't need the oil cooler, and if the repacenent you come up with has it, -just put plugs in holes and forget it!
If it has an auto trans. then it should have four lines going to it. two for trans cooler and two for oil cooler. trans cooler lines go to trans and oil cooler lines go to engine. usually to the oil filter housing. If you buy a radiator with oil cooler it will still work you just leave the holes where the lines would go plugged. hope this help
just look on the back of the radiator(engine side)

an see if you can see two sets of hard lines going into it or one(for the transmission)

Oil light in my car HELP HELP?

My oil light has been coming on in my car when I stop for about a month now. It only comes on when the car is stopped (never when running) and if I slightly press the gas the light goes back off again. We have changed the oil pressure senser and the oil pump itself. Can any one please help with what may be wrong. I dint want my car to quit running I am scared to driver it.Oil light in my car HELP HELP?
Sounds like it could be your oil pressure relief valve that is not working properly. You say that you've had the pressure sensor and pump changed, but not the pressure relief valve. This not only relieves excess pressure in the system but it also maintains pressure as well, so if it is not working properly you will have the symptoms that you've described.Oil light in my car HELP HELP?
The obvious answer (but not necessarily the correct answer) is, you are low on oil.

Some cars (especially older cars) burn oil as a matter of course, you may need to put up to a quart of oil a week into your vehicle. When the vehicle is old this is because the seals around the pistons have worn and oil is taken into the combustion process.

In newer cars this could be indicative of a broken gasket, a bad valve, or even a cracked block or manifold. Hopefully this is not the case because this is a problem that needs to be fixed and it is expensive.

If your oil levels are OK, and you are still seeing the light, you could be dealing with a clogged oil filter, a (second) bad oil pump (yes sometimes replacement parts are bad too) or, from the symptoms you're describing, your idle may be set too low.
99% sure you are low on oil - Instead of just adding oil, get an oil change to remove the old gunk and add clean oil. The oil change places love to sell stuff that you don't want or necesarily need, just be firm - Oil change only please!! (this includes the oil filter).

Short version: get your a car a well deserved oil change for about $30.
a local auto parts store might be able to hook up your car to a little hand held device for free, and the car will tell you whats wrong with it by giving you a code

advanced auto parts did this for me for free once i think
Go to Autozone and have them take a look, it is cheaper than taking it in, and you find out whats wrong faster. If you live in Apple Valley, Ca go to the one on HWY 18 and ask for Joel, He is the best there.

    Hope this information helps

    Put oil in it?

    Answer mine please?

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>
One reason would be the use of (thin) synthetic oil.
it means you have low oil pressure.

do you have enough oil in your car?
Check you oil level. Is it full to the proper level?

If a car is extremely low on oil could that cause it to smoke?

It's the other way around. When your engine ';consumes'; too much oil it will smoke. So, in a way, the exhaust smoke is causing your engine to be low on oil. It could be leaking, or it could be burning it. Usually engines don't leak oil in places that would cause them to smoke. Unfortunately, an oil leak er is easier fix than an oil burner.

Check out a link that I supplied from a couple of the funniest guys in car repair: Tom and Ray. Someone else had the same problem as you did their answer is enclosed. If a car is extremely low on oil could that cause it to smoke?
The oil might be leakin on the hot exhaust.Don't drive the car if it's smoking. You're asking for a fire.have it towed to a reputable garage to have it checkd out.It may be expensive, but better safe than sorry. If a car is extremely low on oil could that cause it to smoke?
Yes, it's either burning it or leaking it.
yes...the engine is burning up...get it? burning=smoke...someones head should roll
Yes if its leaking oil or your burning something up

It takes 3 things to run an engine. Gas, spark and compression. You confirmed gas and spark, next test the engine for good and equal compression. The timing chain may be bad and need replacing. The thing you said about the lite coming on and the engine died, did you scan the computer for any codes? Ask your friend if he has a ecm scanner to read the engine codes. This will get you a starting point for any problems with the computer sensors as well. Have you removed any of the spark plugs to see if they are worn or damaged or gas fouled? Try doing a few of these tests and you are welcome to e-mail me if you need to.

鈥nd scroll down below the chart that appears. Read the discussion of the procedure to retrieve the Diagnostic Trouble Codes. It is simple, non-intrusive and safe. It only requires a paperclip.

With the codes in hand you can begin to understand the failure, and can refer to a QUALITY repair or shop manual for the proper diagnostics and the subsequent repairs.

    Happy Motoring
I think those lights come on when the engine dies. It sounds like a cam position sensor. My 89 Grand Prix 3.1 did the same thing. You may also want to check the ignition module as you it could spark but not in the correct order or only a few cylinders.
what is the oil level at? With the car sitting flat and leave the starter alone for 10 minutes before you check. Bring it up to the top line. I am betting you is way low. Safety feature so you don't blow the engine due to the lack of oil.

Hi. Do not run the transmission without a cooler! If you do, you will potentially destroy your transmission within a few minutes of driving. The heat generated without a cooler is incredible and it won't take long for the fluid to boil. It's not a question of if, but more so when. As for the parts including cooler, i have a friend in Canberra who is about to sell parts off his '90 (i think) LTD. he is not a wrecker, so should be quite reasonable on price. I'm not sure where you are, but i live in Sydney and will be visiting him over Easter if you need the parts in Sydney. Hope this helps.Does my car need to run the oil cooler or can i take it off and just run the radiator?
It's probably an after market add on. If it's hooked to an adapter under the oil filter, you can remove that adapter and lose the cooler. About the only LTDs that need oil coolers are police models and ones that tow things.
I assume the oil cool you are referring to is the auto. transmission oil cooler. No you do not have to run through the radiator, but you should use some sort of cooler. You can buy a separate air cooler and install this and not use the radiator oil cooler. These do not cost very much. For the other pars just go to a auto wrecking yard and pick up what you need

The Chevy dealer here charges $20, that is the same as rapid change and them, so I go to the dealer. You can go where you want, just keep your proof of oil change.
    You can go anywhere
Unless it specifies in your lease ( which I doubt, but you can check) that it has to be taken directly to the dealer, you can take it anywhere you'd like. We have taken ours for oil change/repairs to a mechanic down the street from us.
Check with the people you have the car leased through? Most of the time they want you to go to the dealer that you leased with. They could give you a deal, if not do it for free as part of the lease price.
    It's your choice!

Do you believe in the car without oil nearly ?

http://www.ecolo-trader.fr/Premiere-immatriculation-de-la-voiture-a-air-compr-vtptc-94.phpDo you believe in the car without oil nearly ?
Compressed air-powered cars are not zero emissions. Electric cars are not zero-emissions. If your car ran on compressed air, you would need an air compressor to power it. Air compressors today are typically either gas-powered (they have an engine on them) or electric-powered (they have a motor on them). If they're electric, then the energy comes mostly from burning coal (in the United States, anyway). Coal is decidedly not zero-emissions. It's one of the filthiest energy supplies we have. Burning coal actually emits more radioactive particles (impurities in the coal, released when it's burned) than a nuclear power plant.Do you believe in the car without oil nearly ?
My French is a little rusty, but as I understand it, the article says the car runs on compressed air and can run up to 200 km on one fill. That's very impressive. It makes me wonder once again why American auto manufacturers are so far behind on zero-emission vehicle technology.

    [edit]

I'm sure by now most people have read about the 65 mpg Ford diesel car that will be sold only in Europe, not in the USA (see first link). There's something a little fishy about their claim that it isn't economically feasible to build the engines here or import them. They have no trouble making a full line of diesel engines for their full-size trucks (second link), but they want us to believe they can't afford to make a smaller one? I can't help being suspicious that there's something more to the story. If the French can build a car that doesn't use any gas, why can't the Americans build one that doesn't guzzle it like there's no tomorrow?
same can be accomplished with an electric car, and it's easier to find somewhere to plug in than somewhere to compress air for you.
That war against friction was supposedly won in the early 1960's and the product was Molybdenum Disulphide.

It'll be fine.I put 10W30 oil in my car. I then found out that it's supposed to have 5W30 oil in it. What should I do?
Don't panic! Many people do this. It is merely a heavier weight of oil. It will not harm your engine. As a matter of fact if you are in a 4 cylinder that you drive hard it may help; or if your vehicle has high miles. You may want to change to the 5w at your next oil change if it is really a big consern for you. Oh yeah--one other thing. If you ADDED 10w to your 5w (like if your oil was low) then it will not mix well. If it was more than a qt change your oil.
Unless the temperature is or is going to be 20 or below before the next change, don't worry about it.
What year, make %26amp; model? How many miles? How it the weather where you live?

If the weather is mild, and there are a few miles (50K +), don't wory about it. If the car is new, few miles, or very cold, change it.
Leave it until the next oil change, it won't hurt it.
nothing drive it until you are due again and then put 5w30 back in
it isn't too different. get it right next time.
buy an oil drainer for 拢5.99
It will be fine. As summer is coming up, 10W-30 isn't going to hurt it.
it will be just fine, it won't hurt a thing, just change to the 5w-30 the next oil change if you feel like it.
it will be fine..if you live where it is very cold you might notice it is slower to start in the morning
Well contrary to popular belief the ';W'; in the oil doesnt refer to the wieght it is the viscosity rating. Viscosity simpily put is how your oil holds together when it gets hot. You shouldnt have any problems. On your next oil change make sure its 5W30.

  • Oil companies profited, car makers stop selling as many suv's, are the oil co. at fault for the crisis?

The oil companies aren't at fault for this.

Car companies made a lot more profit off of selling an SUV than they did selling a car. It was easy money. They got too greedy. And now they don't want to take responsibility for their actions. If the government's going to help them out, the CEOs, CFOs, COOs, Chairmen, and Board Members should have to surrender their stock and be replaced. Oil companies profited, car makers stop selling as many suv's, are the oil co. at fault for the crisis?
NO. The automakers knew that a time would come when SUVs would be obsolete. There was a time in the 70s when gas was rationed and people stopped buying larger cars. The automakers were slow to adjust which caused the rise in popularity for the Toyota and Datsun (Nissan) brands. The automakers quickly went back to building big cars (and even bigger SUVs) as soon as the oil embargo ended.

The same thing is happening today. The automakers are too focused on building big, luxury cars with poor gas mileage instead of building hybrids or fuel efficient cars. Over the past several years, they have been more focused on putting On-Star or heated seats into cars when they should have been building cars that get 50 mpg. They would have been more successful in overseas markets if they had.Oil companies profited, car makers stop selling as many suv's, are the oil co. at fault for the crisis?
No. This economic crisis started with the mortgage crisis. The ones that really profited would be Sauda Arabia, Iraq and other oil producing countries.
This question is a joke, right?

I put 3000 miles on my car in 1 month. My 6 month service isn't due until next month. Do I get the oil chg?

it wouldnt hurt to wait until next month to get the oil changed.I put 3000 miles on my car in 1 month. My 6 month service isn't due until next month. Do I get the oil chg?
the milage should supercede the time frame, read the warranty again it should state milage or 6 months, which ever comes first
It depends on the current mileage and a few other things. For the most part, if you have 75K+ It'd be alright. Pull your dipstick and smell the oil, if it smells burnt, you need it changed. Do it yourself, it's so easy.
no, i'm sure it'll be ok to wait a month.
It's usually 3000 short distance miles %26amp; 5000 highway miles for oil changes.

    Veggie oil car?

do i need to convert my diesel in any way so it runs on veggie oil and not hurt my car? if i need to about how much would it cost and where could i get the stuff ect ect.....?Veggie oil car?
    Short answer: Yes

Long answer: See belowVeggie oil car?
Check out the site www.capegreenauto.com there is good info on there, and you can email them. Lots of good links too Report Abuse

Depends on what type of car it is. Late model VW and MB diesels do not require modifcations but ealrier models do.
My understanding of vegatable oil fuel is that there are two types.

The first type is the one that goes thru a chemical process that converts it into something resembling diesel fuel. For this you need a medium sized garage full of equipment.

The second type is primarily vegatable oil. This requires modifications to the diesel engine. It seems that this type starts the engine with diesel fuel and once the engine reaches a critical temperature the fuel is switched to veggie oil.

In either case you are in for a large initial investment.

Can the electric car catch osama binladen by stopping oil from saudia arabia.?

The race to catch the past criminals with future development in the electric car as saudia arabia is no fan of the electric car .The electric cars means the end of terrorism for many in this world through stoping oil.Can the electric car catch osama binladen by stopping oil from saudia arabia.?
Terrorism has got nothing to do with oil. Sure some terrorists have used oil. They've used regular money too. Destroying money won't destroy terrorism.

The resurging Taliban now rely on drug money from poppy growers. Destroying the poppies won't destroy the Taliban, though. In fact, the Taliban destroyed the poppies in the first place, then when they were deposed by the US the poppies came back, now the Taliban use them as a convenient source of money.

In the bigger picture, terrorism is a natural political response of people or groups who have no other recourse. It has existed throughout the history of civilization, and all across the globe too, and in many forms. Whether someone is a terrorist or a resistance hero often depends on point of view.

As long as there are governments, there will be opponents of governments, including armed opponents; and among those there will always be those who are willing to use violence against a civil population for political ends (the strict journalistic usage of ';terrorist';)

As for Osama bin Laden, he doesn't depend on oil money anyway.

As for the electric car, being electric doesn't mean they don't need energy to run. If petroleum-powered cars are quickly replaced by electric cars, where is all the extra electricity going to come from? Nuclear, hydroelectric, wind, solar, would have to develop amazingly quickly to be enough. The only readily available source would be petroleum, via gasoline power plants. Cars would still be running on petroleum, only much less efficiently because of the intermediate step of electricity. Except maybe the sea levels would stop rising by 2050 instead of continuing until 2150.Can the electric car catch osama binladen by stopping oil from saudia arabia.?
Oil is not the source of terrorism. So, since your basic premise is faulty, your entire argument is no good. Garbage in = garbage out

The Islamic terrorists hate the west dating back to the crusades. But the current uproar started in the 50's. A few men from Egypt visited the United States and wrote about the decadence. People drank alcohol, women didn't cover themselves and were allowed to speak. The list is endless. These men started the Muslim brotherhood. There is also the fact that we stopped Hitler from killing all the Jews. Something 90% of all Arabs, and now, many Persians too, desperately want.

They will hate us electric car or not.

As for catching Bin laden, he is a wanted man in Saudi Arabia too.
The fanatical islamists hate the ';west';. It has NOTHING to do with oil. I also want to add, that oil is used in the production of ';almost'; every product we use in this world. If you think just by producing hybrid/electric cars there would be zero oil usage, you are sadly mistaken.

without the oil business, the royal family of saoudi arabia would have less means to put pressure on the us government not to catch one of their sons.

They would still have their extremely massiv investments in the us though.
You are horribly wrong. The electric car will not stop stop terrorism.

Saudia Arabia also attempted to terminate bin Laden more than once. So while he is a native of the country, the government has not love for him.

I strip oil drain plug from my car how can i fix it please help?

i have a 1991 honda civic i change the oil from it but when i put the drain plug back it does not tighten it just turn and turn i now i strip it but is there any other way i could fix it insted of changing the hole oil pan please help???I strip oil drain plug from my car how can i fix it please help?
Yes you can fix it. Just go to an autoparts store and explain. They will give you a kit to rethread the filler bolt hole.

there are few versions - so try few stores and choose the version that you are comfortable with.

good luck....I strip oil drain plug from my car how can i fix it please help?
Talk to a decent machanic even at Midas and they will fix you up with an over size oil plug. I had to do that with an old 1991 ford pickup truck i had. The only problem i ever had was Wallmart wont change your oil with an over size oil plug.
try an over sized plug and wrap it with teflon tape before you reinsert it

  • Oil dripping from Car - Dangerous?

I noticed today a little bit of oil leaking from my car (Nissan Pulsar Sedan, 1989). Its the first time I've ever noticed this. My question though is not how to fix it (i'll just go to the mechanic) but what I want to know is this.

Is it dangerous or unwise to drive a car that is dripping oil? Why/Why not? what could happen?

Thanks heaps!Oil dripping from Car - Dangerous?
Depends on how fast its dripping. If its a slow drip, I'd just keep an eye on the oil level. If it falls to low, add a quart of oil to your engine. If its a fast drip, you need to take it to the mechanic as soon as possible.

Yes, it is dangerous to drive a car if you are losing oil at a rapid pace. You lose that oil and your car can overheat. When it does that the engine may crack and now you have a bigger problem.

Get it fixed as soon as you can. In the meantime, always keep a quart of oil handy in your car. You never know when you might need it.Oil dripping from Car - Dangerous?
it is pretty common with older cars for them too drip or leak oil.

it is what the other fellow said though , you have too be more aware of how much oil your cars is losing , check more frequently, till you can get it fixed.

there are some temporary fixes that you can buy at any automotive store, oil additives that either stop or slow the leak down.

but as the other fellow said , don't let it get too low or you wont have a car they can even fix.!!!
As long as you have enough oil in your engine a little drip is fine. as you say it does need a mechanic but its not dangerous unless its a large leak - a little puddle under your car after a nights rest is OK.

But Check everyday your oil level and seek mechanics attention.
oh my god, driving a car that is leaking oil is extremely dangerous. if any sort of fire touches that oil, it will link to your car and there will be an explosion. you are endangering yourself and others. so it would be wise to definitely take your car to a mechanic soon.
as a motorcyclist, I considere it dangerous to a degree. When it rains all the oil on the road comes to the surface and makes it very slippery. This is particularly bad after a long dry spell when it first rains. Eventually the oil gets washed off the road but the first rainfall is deadly.

I've landed on my backside a few times due to this, especially in the city
where's it leaking , front or back ? if back is bad, if front there's many reason, if it is radiator fluid , make sure you check your fluid level.
it means your losing oil which, if it gets too low, can kill a car very quickly!
There should be concern about this if its dripping on hot surface (exhaust pipe ext.) could cause fire. If enough drips out you could seize engine (very bad) my suggestion is to call and schedule an appointment with your mechanic check oil level and see what its dripping on if oil is on stick at all you should be OK for short trip. Ask your mechanic before starting it up.
the answer the girl gave about the car cathcing fire ect ect was very funny but it is VERY unlikely so don't worry, many cars leak oil but unless u r in a james bond movie with that car i highly doubt ur gonna blow up in it from an oil leak. this is really not a big deal, half the cars out there leak oil, just make sure u check it daily (depending on how bad the leak is) and keep the oil full and u wont have a problem. u should have it looked at but if u don't want to spend the money i would say have a friend or yourself get up under the car and explain to me as best u can what u see and i'm sure i could tell u whats going on. another thing u can do is next time u take the car in to have the oil changed ask the man there checking it if he can see where it's comming from and if it is bad ect ect, usually those guys know a little about cars and if it is obvious enough they should be able to help, good luck!!
you are losing oil, so that is bad on your engine and other parts. other bad things: oil is leaking onto the road, creating a slippery condition that could be dangerous to you and other drivers, oil is flammable...and people flick cigarette butts out the window all the time...etc.

have you had an oil change lately? maybe the oil pan was not resealed properly...??? i dated a guy who had a tune up before coming to see me at college and the guys that did the tune up either didnt replace his radiator cap or didnt put it back on properly and he leaked coolant during the entire drive out to see me and his car wound up overheating. check to make sure its not just a cap or plug that isnt missing or isnt on properly. hopefully it isnt a more costly repair, like a crack...good luck.
It can be bad, but its not uncommon in older cars.

Depends on the why it's dripping the oil.

Old seals, loose bolts/plug/filter, PCValve needs replaced,

    lots of minor things.

If your head gasket is going, it could be a major repair!

    Get it looked at soon.

PS. Kiki is full of fecal matter.

Do you think oil from algae is the future for car fuel? If yes why?

I'm confused about its CO2 reduction and how it can be used in cars without any change being implemented to the car Do you think oil from algae is the future for car fuel? If yes why?
I think algae produced fuel is a wonderful idea.

I expect it to make it to commercial production. Do you think oil from algae is the future for car fuel? If yes why?
I think synthetic fuels made from solar energy such as the experiment at Sandia Labs will be the future. They synthesized CO from CO2, H2 from H2O and then finally hydrocarbons from the CO and H2. The synthesis of fuel from CO and H2 is already done in commercial quantities by the US Air Force, Shell's GTL plant, South Africa and WWII Nazi Germany but they all got the CO and H2 from incomplete combustion of coal or natural gas.

Algae is a good shortcut in the process (nature's nanites) but ultimately more of the energy could be put into creating the fuel instead of keeping the algae's other metabolic functions going.

Bio-diesel, synthetic diesel and petroleum diesels are all oil blends with an average hydro-carbon chain length between 10 and 13. he difference is that bio-diesel and synthetic diesel are cleaner more uniform ie.: more likely to be mostly Decane while petroleum diesel will be all sorts of crap that averages out to the same length. Technically they are all the same hence the no modifications needed requirement, the petroleum diesel is just a dirtier mix.

Vegetable oils such as peanut oils have chain lengths upwards of 18. Used vegetable oils will have chain lengths as high as 30. The higher chain length oils are what gels over but you're supposed to reduce the chain length of the vegtable oil by titrating with sodium hydroxide (drain cleaner). The sodium hydroxide reacts with oil to form glycerins (soap) thereby cutting a segment out of a chain hence breaking the chain into two shorter chains (it's a random process, you don't know where in the chain it's going to chop it and you don't know if every chain will get chopped). Bio-diesel that gels are bio-diesels that still have mostly long chains. With better refinement, instead of backyard biodiesel, cold weather biodiesel will be as feasible as cold weather petroleum diesel (tends to form wax on it's surface in cold weather). Many ';home'; biodiesel haven't been titrated, the owners opting to use the heat in engine coolant to keep regular vegetable oils fluid enough to use. Another problem with biodiesel is the use of methanol to disperse the sodium hydroxide enough so that it cuts up as many chains as possible, otherwise it would just react with the nearest chain completely turning it all into soap. Methanol is corrosive and can damage engine parts, hoses and gaskets designed for petroleum diesel (Sodium hydroxide is also corrosive so any unreacted NaOH can also damage parts). Again, proper refinement can separate out the various products.

With bio-diesel, the CO2 is just the CO2 recently removed from the air by the plants hence a zero net increase in CO2. Fossil fuels releases CO2 captured by plants millions of years ago hence increases the levels of atmospheric CO2
Yes. There is little difference between mineral diesel and bio-diesel fuel produced from vegetable oil sources such as Corn oil, Rapeseed oil and certain types of pond algae. Pond algae is a particularly efficient source of vegetable oil as certain types have a higher oil yield per acre than more traditional crops such as maize and rapeseed.

Growing fuel sources from crops produces a much smaller net increase in atmospheric CO2. As the plants grow, they absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.

Diesel engines need no modification to run on bio diesel as there is little chemical difference between bio diesel and mineral oil diesel. Diesel engines can run on straight or waste vegetable oil, but some adjustment to the fuel delivery system may be necessary, such as heating on the fuel lines to the the fuel and modification to the fuel injectors. I currently run a Citroen ZX 1.9D on waste veggie oil.
Not by itself, but biofuel from algae oil will be part of the future of car fuel. I think electric cars will become more prevalent, but algae oil has some serious benefits. For example, it's carbon negative - meaning that the algae absorbs carbon in the process of making the oil.

I wrote a wiki article on the subject - see link below.
It might be part of the future of liquid fuels. The problem is coming up with a less expensive way to grow the algae. Researchers are trying new methods in an attempt to cut costs. Petrodiesel will still be an important fuel in cold climates because biodiesels gel at much higher temperatures. Depending what kind of plant its made from some biodiesels start to gel at 40F. Its another problem to be worked out.
Biodiesel doesn't work well in cold weather. But we can now make petroleum products in hours that would take the Earth tens of thousands of years. Biogasoline (not ethanol) is made from any plant that has sugar or carbohydrates. http://www.rexresearch.com/cortright/cor鈥?/a> Other petroleum products like diesel and jet fuel as well.

There is also a process called thermal depolymerization that takes any garbage containing carbon and turning it into crude oil.

    http://www.changingworldtech.com/

there are lots of breakthrough in terms of fuel alternatives, but I'll go with water for future cars, water is abundant unlike biodiesel, but maybe yes, algae might be a part of future fuels if we have mass production of those.
Diesel engines were made to run on plant oil, not petroleum. In the future, all dieselswill run on oil. Only antiques will burn petrol.

I took my car in to the Honda dealer for an oil change and they overfilled it with about a quart too much, it?

I got an oil change and they put too much oil in. I also got a new air filter and on my way to work, the car started missing. I took the car back in and the air filter was not installed correctly and they drained the oil and redid it. It is not missing now but does not run like it used too, it's a Honda CRV 2003 with 55,000 miles. A guy in the shop mentioned to me something about oil may get on the seals if it is too full. Any advice? I use the cheapest gas, but may switch just for 1 time. Please comment!I took my car in to the Honda dealer for an oil change and they overfilled it with about a quart too much, it?
i own a repair shop and it needs to be gotten out of there,is not good for a car to run it over full like that ,and yes it can cause some leaks from certain seals on it,id take it back to them and make then do it right this time, its actually better to run one a half a quart low then over,a half a quart low will not hurt any car but over it will cause a lot of seals to leak, and gaskets to start leaking,so id get this taken care of as soon as i could, good luck with it i hope this helps.I took my car in to the Honda dealer for an oil change and they overfilled it with about a quart too much, it?
II don't see what gas has to do with your problem. But since you brought it up. Since your such a cheap skate on gas why not change your own oil and filter. You can do it for half the cost and then you have only yourself to blame if it's not done correctly. By the way your really not saying any money by buying the cheapest gas either. My cars get better performance and gas mileage on premium than the cheap junk.
Your car is OK,is not good to run it overfilled, but is not a big deal neither.

even knowing that ,complain to the dealer that Your car is not the same.,and make a big deal out of nothing may be the next time ,You get the car serviced for free.

use 95 % cheap gas(non-amoco gas) and 5% premium gas from amoco.

the additves from amoco work fantastic on cheap gas, in that porcentage.
I suspect that you have contaminated the EGR valve exhaust gas recirculation valve.Take it back and ask to speak to the service manager its shoddy workmanship.
if it is overfilled with oil. the extra oil needs to be drained out. too much oil is not good. the crankshaft will whip the oil into a bubbly froth. the bubbles make lubrication not work right.

    --------------

cheapest gas (lowest octane, like 87 octane) is OK for your car. not necessary to use higher grade.

    -----------------

hi dodge man. we seem to answer the same Q lots of times. you have a lot more experience than me, so, i agree with what dodge man says.
those people at that honda dealer don't know much about cars. Take it to a mechanic who really knows about cars and

they can do a much better job
i would have not payed for it and drive off cause they screwed up not u they are supposed to know how what where and when...stop payment also have enginge checked for compression vavle seals are now soak with oil and this is not good

u may need a engine cleaner that can clean them off such as ie: high octane gas will do ok but a good valve cleaner is better
keep complaining to the Honda dealer, and have them fix it, completely. They 4q up your car, and they are responsible for it.

Car leaking oil somehwere, cant find leak?

my chrysler 2.2L 4cyl has 82,000km on it, and started leaking a bit of oil out the bottom of the car somehwere before winter and i stored it in the winter and placed a large cardboard underneath....after there was some oil on the cardboard.....well anyway come april 20th, i changed the oil and checked for leaks underneath and doesnt seem to be leaking anywhere but i notice small spots of oil underneat...oil pan is is not rusted out....i had a new valve cover gasket put in last year....its not burning oil.....but yet after a while on the dipstick it gets down to the add mark....do i have bypass going through rings....i dont get why its losing oil.....also antifreeze is not in oil....Car leaking oil somehwere, cant find leak?
I wouldnt worry to much as all cars use some oil..If theres blowback you would have oil in your intake.i sugest degreasing all the car engine and finding the leak that way.it could just have been spillage or a loose oil filterCar leaking oil somehwere, cant find leak?
dodge has had a recall on either the valve cover gasket or the head gasket for this reason simple leaks. that is what i was told last year i believe it was. you might want to check in with the dealer and see what they have to say.

btw EVERY engine Burns a little oil, i don't care if it is a fiat, or a Ferrari, just by design, you introduce oil into the combustion chamber and you burn it! not very much, but a quart over 3000 to 4000 miles is considered normal by most of the people that i talk to on a regular basis.
    Could be coming from anywhere.

Take your car to a steam cleaner to remove all the external oil and grease from the exterior of the engine block.

Look for leaks on your clean engine.

The most common places for oil leaks are: oil pan gasket, oil pan drain bolt, rear main seal, transmission bell housing, oil filter, timing chain cover and cylinder head.

Another way to find oil leaks is to add an ultraviolet dye to your oil, drive around for 10 minutes and look for the dye color using a black light.

Car keeps running out of oil?

i have a montero sport that drinks up a quart of oil in a week. It has over 100k mi. on it. And i'm using 10-30 oil. Any idea how to fix it?Car keeps running out of oil?
Blue smoke is an indication of the engine burning the oil either past the oil rings on the pistons, or in the cylinder head iteself. In the head there are oil seals on the valves that may be dry rotted and the oil seeps past the valve into the cumbustion chamber. Only thing to do is a compression test and cylinder leak down test. Determine where the problem lies, and then remove and repair.

Costly jobs no matter what.............good luckCar keeps running out of oil?
Sounds like faulty engine valve guide seals and/or a blocked PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system. Also check for a cracked oil pressure sending switch.
well obviously your oil is leaking, it could be leaking from ur head gasket which isnt too pricey to repair, if its leaking from the bottom thats g onna cost u a lot man
Either your valve seals are cracked/missing, or you have bad piston rings.

Valve seals can be replaced with the engine in the car, but it's tricky...piston rings means you'll need a rebuild, since the engine needs to come out to do it anyway.
    the oposite
It's either leaking out of somewhere or it's burning off. Look for either oil stains on your driveway, or sniff around for a burnt refinery aroma. Determine which of the two is happening first, come back online here, let us know, and we'll procede from there.
Need to find out if your leaking oil or burning oil. If your burning oil then you rebuild the engine.

If your leaking it then find and fix the leaks.
find out where the oil is leaking from and fix the leak. If it is not leaking..the engine may be worn out and allowing oil to pass the piston rings
the blue smoke is your oil burning,,you have high mileage,,id suggest a tune up..it wont help much but it will increase your life,,your car has to many miles for it to be fixed,,probably your rings or valves,,,
there might be whole that makes leaks
Sounds like the valve seals have had it. This usually happens from not changing the oil regularly. I feel no pitty for people that don't change thier oil. Dump an oil additive like Restore or something into it. If that doesn't help then you'll need a head job to fix the problem. Look into getting a new ride soon.
park over some card board, check for leaks, it could be a leaking seal, or bad filter, take a peak under you car. it would definately cost you less to go and buy a year and model manual of you vehicle, and the parts to fix it from a auto store tahn to take it in. but find out if any of your buddies or family can help you too if you have little experience. that will save you having to buy a butt load of oil every week, better for the environment too.
sounds like a really big oil leak to me or u might have a bad gasket ... try going to some dealer or mechanic and tell them whatthe problem is and see what they say

If u put to much oil in a car will the car be ok?

what do you consider too much?, if it's only a half qt. overfull you will be Ok but any more than that I would drain some out.If u put to much oil in a car will the car be ok?
it depends on how too much oil!. if say 2 or more qts.too much, you have a chance of blowing the oil seals out or a gasket. its better if its down a little, then too much.If u put to much oil in a car will the car be ok?
Too much oil can damage an engine, depending on your definition of too much. A quart too much? You'll probably be fine, anything over that can start problems. When the oil level gets too high, the crank can splash it in the pan, this makes it foam, the pump cannot pump foam, and at that point, bad things happen. I once drained 4 *gallons* of oil from a customers engine. His daughter borrowed it for school, he told her to check the oil level when she filled up, she didn't know how, so she just added a quart at every fill up. When he brought the car to me, it was barely running, and oil was leaking from everywhere. We ended up rebuilding the engine.
Guess you have your answer. Add a quart every time she filled up is hillarious. Had to give a thumbs up for that.
Too much oil is just as bad as having not enough. If you have the oil over some of the moving parts it makes it frothy like a milkshake and the oil looses its grade. If its just a litle bit over things should be ok.
If it is not way too much,if it is way too much it will cause damage, and or smokey situation
As mentioned, it depends on how much is too much. The oil can start to foam is there is way too much. You can simply drain a little.
1/2 quart prob ok...more is bad....blows out gasgets and seals and makes oil foam,,,burning up oil pump and bearings....
Depends on how much too much, as the engine relies on a certain oil pressure. Too much or too little can result in serious problems. The manufacturers build in a certain error factor but be careful not to put in a lot too much. Good luck
No your car is going to explode for sure.

because i'm breaking it in and i've idled it 3 times without after run oilWhat will happen if i dont put after run oil in my nitro car?
You don't have to put it in every time you run the car, every 4 - 5 times will keep it running at its best, it doesn't really matter if you don't use after run oil, it will just wear the engine a bit faster.

How to change car ac oil?

i need help changing car ac oil.if explained with diagram would be better. i need to replace because i want the gas to be changed from R 12 to R 134a. pls help.its urgent

thank youHow to change car ac oil?
Changing from R12 to R134a is very complicated, it requires flushing every component of the system using a special cleaning fluid to remove virtually all of the old oil then the components must be re-assembled using new seals and the expansion valve or orifice must also be replaced with the correct one for R134a.

Servicing the Freon in an Air conditioner requires the use of a refrigerant recovery and charging station to evacuate any air or moisture prior to charging and properly adjust the Freon level and to avoid releasing Freon into the atmosphere when making repairs which require opening the sealed system 鈥?which is prohibited by federal Law due to the adverse effect Freon has on the Ozone in the air which protects everything on earth from excessive solar radiation - A/C service techs take extensive training before they can service systems because they are much more complex than they appear.

This is not a DIY project...

Take it to several shops to get estimates.

On any major repair I recommend that you get 3 or 4 estimates from local service facilities unless you are lucky enough to have a shop with an absolutely stellar reputation available.

Do not overlook auto body shops as sources for this type of job - they deal with damaged A/C systems every day and usually have a higher than average level of skill in servicing A/C systems for this reason.

Compare the estimates and choose one of the middle estimates. My reasoning for this is the low estimate either left something out or worse is deliberately giving a low ball estimate to get you in and then when your car is all torn apart they find all sorts of critically important things wrong with it which run your bill through the roof. Do the leg work and be an informed car owner. No reliable technician or shop will give an estimate for repair site unseen except as a budgetary estimate which will be a range from the middle average to the unusual high end possible. How to change car ac oil?
get in car drive to a shop to get it dont right you dont drain it you add it to it and just so you know if you add too much of either and lock your system up coul dcost you more and just so you know that if you have a leak reason its not working and dont fix it your throwing money out window is why most have it repaired right there is so many things to a cars ac system more than just adding coolant get it wrong it cost you
THIS is a job for a SPECIALIST, not a DIY.

It requires special tools, AND A LICENSE!!

Note that SOME compressors are NOT suitable for the newer refrigerant, and changing them is expensive.

';I need to top up the oil in my car, but I don't have motor oil. Can I use olive oil instead??

Hey Kev, you want to blow up her engine..

dont listen to men with blue hair.. haha';I need to top up the oil in my car, but I don't have motor oil. Can I use olive oil instead??
    STOP STOP!

never put anything in there unless its ceritfied motor oil, it will burn off fast and youll burn your motor up thinking you got oil in it. dont listen to these bird brains, dont put cooking oil or olive oil in your car, its not made for your car. go get motor oil, you dont want to screw up your engine.';I need to top up the oil in my car, but I don't have motor oil. Can I use olive oil instead??
My sister did this exact thing. She needed oil in her VW. She put a quart of cooking oil in and drove to work. She got about 8 miles when the engine seized. The cooking oil had blended with the motor oil and then foamed up. The result was a fried motor and a $4,000 repair bill.

Motor oil is specially formulated for the extreme heat and friction in an internal combustion engine.Do not ever try and substitute it. Most service stations and mini marts sell motor oil. Get a quart and a few spares to carry if your engine is using oil.
Definately NOT. It doesn't have the necessary lubricating qualities needed to protect the engine and will do considerable damage. The same goes for peanut oil, vegetable oil, sesame oil, sunflower seed oil, etc. They're for consuming, not for putting in your car.
    You can certain try.

    ===

Seriously no. Motor oils is finely engineered for engines.

    It lubricates.

    It resist break down.

    Resists freezing.

    Resists sludge formation,

    etc.

Olive oil is formulate for for flavor only.

    ====

    Beside motor oil is cheaper.

    Good luck...
I would definitely not advise doing that. Motor oil has special detergents in it that keep your engine clean, and olive oil will most certainly cake up on the internals. Your best bet is to get some motor oil.
are you trying to protect the engine or simmer it? go to a store and pick up the oil. a chef you are not.
I tried baby oil once. my engine was not a happy camper afterward. it kept me up all night with it's constant crying

Lesson: DO NOT try baby oil
NO NO NO NO NO NO

Only motor oil can be used in a motor
Sure you can. But it has to be the extra virgin olive oil...
Just stuff an avocado in your crocs. That works every time.
Not unless you want to be on foot.
no it will gunk up and make your engine work harder then it has to.
If you can get past Popeye, yes!
funny, got to be a joke nobody this lost
make sure you use two gallons of it...

What kind of oil should i use for my car?

i have a 1996 audi a4 2.8l quattro with about 119,200 miles on it. which type of oil should i use? like high mileage, advanced protection ect. thanksWhat kind of oil should i use for my car?
any good grade that will match your driving area or habits. no need for outlandish oils just for mileage if vehicle is maintained properlyWhat kind of oil should i use for my car?
Very easy. Use a grade of oil that matches the viscosity requirements for your vehicle. That should be listed in your owner's manual. Make sure that you use a high quality synthetic oil (Mobil 1, Royal Purple, etc.) I prefer Mobil 1 and use a high quality filter (K%26amp;N, Bosch, etc). I use about a 6k-7k change interval and I have never had any problems.
What does the owner's manual suggest ? What does your mechanic suggest ? Ask the mechanic the same question you posed to us. Perhaps the synthetic is the way to go if you want another 119,200 miles from the vehicle.
a high mileage synthetic oil. it's best to refer to the owner's manual.
    Use what the manufacturer suggests.
i would look up what the owner manual says and stick with that for best results

Its their problem, not yours. But, you should have kept a copy of the bill of sale that said AS IS with the buyers signature.

    Don't worry about it now.

They wouldnt be sending you money if the car lasted longer than they expected.
They may try to imply you are responsible, but you are not. The ONLY way they would have any power is if you made a written guarantee of condition. Otherwise, the sale was as-is. Anything could have happened in those two days.
any used vehicle is sold with the implied idea that its as is. pretty much tell them to deal with it and if it goes to them sueing you they will be waisting their money. dont feel bad about it it wasnt on when you sold it

Does turbo car need to change oil every 1k miles ?

recenlty, my turbo car accelerate slower than be4 (turbo doesnt start as fast as be4 when I press gas pedal). I still remember my car accelerate faster after my last change oil. Is it a sign that it is about the time to change oil change ?Does turbo car need to change oil every 1k miles ?
noDoes turbo car need to change oil every 1k miles ?
Most likely, your turbo is going. If in fact you do need a new one, invest in a turbo timer so the next one lasts longer.

Helps it cool off after use. I'm sure in your manual, it says to let it idle for a minute before shutting off.

No ! these are 2 different parts of the overall system, people do however screw-up the turbo by not allowing cooling time for the turbo, did you read the owners Manuel.more trouble from lack of cooling then anything else.
yes that can indicate that you need an oil change, but you do not necessarily need to change the oil every 1000 miles. You are ragging the engine out with all the pedal to the metal driving you do, and that is why you might need one pretty early.

A turbocharged engine has a very short life expectancy, and the fast and furious driving you do is killing it.

The faster the car the more maintenance you must do.
    You probably do.

You should change it every once in a while especially if has alot of miles

  • Aside from change oil and tune-up, what are the other requirements for a 10,000 kilometer car check-up?Thanks.

My car is a Mitsubishi Galant, 1989 model. How can I be fuel efficient?Aside from change oil and tune-up, what are the other requirements for a 10,000 kilometer car check-up?Thanks.
1 how does your car only have 10000 km / 6000 miles if its 18 years old??? but i would check all fluids change if necessary. air filter adds gas mileage, alignment, fuel system cleaning, hell just about any maintenanceAside from change oil and tune-up, what are the other requirements for a 10,000 kilometer car check-up?Thanks.
May want to add a tire rotation too.
If its got more than 30,000 miles on it, change the fuel filter..Always a clean air filter too

PLEASE send pictures and REPORT ON FIXING THIS CAR OIL PAN!?

this is a question on a 1987 Ford car (crown victoria),the motor pan gasket is in about 4 parts and is leaking, need to stop it but one of the plug holes for draining is very hard to get at, any answers? on how to achieve this? or what kind of tool to use? I don't have the manual for this car or a repair one!I tried the local library on line but didn't get the answers as I'm just not asking the right question!PLEASE send pictures and REPORT ON FIXING THIS CAR OIL PAN!?
to start - pull the engine

there isn't enough clearance to properly install the gaskets

    or clean the gasket surfaces

    without contaminating the engine oil

the long gaskets are the sides

the curved pieces are front and rear main journal seals

Alright Why do you think my mom sit in her car while my dad checked the oil and water in her car bf she left?

I need to top up the oil on my car what is the best kind?

i have a 1999 1300 hyundai accent and would like to know whats the best oil for the engineI need to top up the oil on my car what is the best kind?
Topping up you will be ok with 10-40. The brand isn't crittical The oil should be replaced at the next service with the correct grade and amount by your local garage.I need to top up the oil on my car what is the best kind?
10w 40 for your car....any make will do fine but if your asking Castrol is a safe bet!

    All the best! : )
It's not really what's the 'best', more what is compatible. Best to consult the manufacturer's manual.
    10/40
its normally the best idea to use the same oil that is already in it.

so to keep the oil grades the same
there is no ';best'; oil. Synthetic oil is shown to last longer and protect better but as far as brand goes, who can really tell? be sure to use the correct weight and viscosity. which can differ for different climates. the real question is why do you need to top off your oil? is your car burning oil? leaking it? is there a blow-by? you may want to take your car in and get it checked out. or if its just been awhile since your last oil change..you should change your oil. also i personally think Lucas' oil additive is great. but that might just be them successfully advertising to me. hope that helps!
The best engine oil is the oil recommended by the manufacturer, check in the back of the car's hand book it should tell you the correct grade and manufacturer.
    castrol magnatec
whatever is factory recommended, check owners manual or parts store can tell you.
