Car Help Please, Oil on spark plugs?

I have a 1995 Ford Contour 4cylinder and while doing a tune up I noticed oil not really on the tops, but around the plugs. It doesn't burn oil or it would be smoking. So I was wondering what was up?

I was reading somewhere about how you had to be careful while changing the plugs because oil and stuff collects around where the plugs go.Car Help Please, Oil on spark plugs?
if its not burning or using oil, prob not a concern.Car Help Please, Oil on spark plugs?
RIchard S is closest to the truth. Many times you do NOT need to replace the valve cover gasket, only tighten it a little bit. After you batten down the hatches, buy a can of chlorinated brake clean. Power wash your engine to remove ALL oil deposits. When you get home, use the brake clean to wash away any oil debris in the spark plug recess. It will quickly evaporate. Good luck!!

A very informative website, kindly stay a minute in website and check
if the oil is,nt on the firing tips of the plugs then your valve pan gasket is leaking. try snugging the pan down or better yet change the gasket.
sounds like you have a pinhole somewhere, or maybe someone just sucks at changing oil. cuz ur plugs should be on the side of your block. oil shouldnt be anywhere around it
valve cover gasket is leaking or intake gasket is leaking.
Your engine valve cover has special gaskets that seal the spark plug holes to prevent seepage of oil into the spark plug area. When these seals get old and hard, they allow seepage into the Spark plug area. It requires that you remove the valve cover and replace those seals and a new valve Cover gasket as well. Here is the tricky part, when you remove those spark plugs, you allow that residual oil and any dirt that has collected to fall into that cylinder and creating the potential for internal damage due to the dirt entering the cylinder. In the shop we use compressed air to blow the area clean prior to removing any of the spark plugs to prevent any engine damage from happening. Replace the gasket and the seals and next time blow out the area prior to removing the plugs. Good Luck.
