ok, so I asked a friend today about oil in my car. It was about 1 quart low, so I filled it up with some 10w40. The car recomends the use of 10w30 or 5w30. I asked my mechanic friend if he thought 10w40 would be ok since it was all I had at my house, he said it should cause no problems, so I filled and away I went.
It drove fine for about 50 miles, then it started accelerating wierdly and I felt a slight vibration when it tried to take off from a dead stop. The vibration got worse the more I drove it so I went home and parked the car.
What I want to know is can oil viscosity affect your engines acceleration? Also, as I was going home the power steering went out, could this be related? I need major helpCar oil help?
HOBO
You should use only straight 30w or 40w.....oils
(or 50w racing oil)
Oils can effect the running....now remove the spark plugs and you will see the black stuff on the plugs....that is oil.
Preplace with ';Auto Lite'; plugs....ask for cold plugs if you have a selection....and that won't happen.
(Houston)Car oil help?
none of that stuff wouldnt have anything to do with the oil. it sounds mor like fuel problems. check the fuel pump pressure, if its low, change the gas filter.
I don't see the oil being a factor at all with your cars problems. It was all just a coincidence. You did nothing wrong as far as I can see and I would have done the same thing.
1 quart of 10w40 isn't going to hurt anything....you must have something else wrong....the power steering has nothing to do with the engine oil.....I would go back to your mechanic friend and see what he can do for you.
