Car oil light comes on when idling and speedometre doesnt work!!!?

My cars timing belt snapped. i just had another one put on and it drove fine but misfired when idling. i finally got that fixed, 4 valves needed replaced etc. The car was also serviced and the oil was changed. now the oil light flickers when i am sitting idle (only after about 1/2 an hour of driving as though its when the oil heats up) and also the speedometre doesnt work! what could be wrong? my dad thinks the oil may be too thin.. if i buy thickener from garage, would this resolve it? also why would the speedometre not work??

The oil light is flickering, most likely, due ti the idle, being too low. Like most vehicles, with a oil light, rather than aoil gauge, the light, will flicker, at a low idle. Most likely, when the valves were replaced, they didn't adjust the idle, just right. Most garages, will adjust the valves too tight, rather, than too loose. It is better to have them, too loose, than too tight. Valves that are adjusted too tight, will warp, and, eventually burn out, where as if they are adjusted loose, they will not do this. That could be one reason, why your oil light is flickering, cause the idle is too low, due to valves, that are adjusted too tight. I have a Dodge Eagle Summit, that had this problem... It was sitting, off to a side, at the dealership, cause they didn't want to fix it, cause the car was too old, so, I bought it, for $500, and, drove it home, though, I could tell, something wasn't right. I tried everything I could think of, then, I thought, maybe... Just maybe, the valves are too tight. So, Off came the valve cover, and, bingo, everything was way too tight. So, after readjusting them, the car ran much better. Before, the car would actually stall, when it was shifted into reverse, cause of the low idle. Now, it is fine. So, that may be one thing for you to consider. Another thing, would be your oil pressure sending unit... If this is acting up, the oil light will flicker, as well. You may also have a oil pressure sensor, as well. Some vehicles, have both. The car's computer, sends the information, to the oil pressure sensor, which in turn, tells the oil pressure sending unit, how to react. However, you could try the oil thickener, though, you don't need to go to the garage, to get it. If you live near any Wal-mart, or any other store, like this, they handle oil thickener, and, it will be cheaper, there, than at a garage. This may resolve your problem, however, if it doesn't, you'll need to check into your oil pressure sending unit, and or, your oil pressure sensor. As to the speedometer, the cable must have broken, just at the same time. They two items, are not related, mind you, just happened that way, I am sure. Teh speedometer, uses a cable, from the rear of the dash, down to the transmission. There is, a small gear, that drives the speedometer, from inside of the transmission. If this gear breaks, or strips, for any reason, the speedometer, will not work. So, have the cable looked at, and, have the gear, looked at, as well. Unless, you have a digital dash, then you have sensors, and, relays that need to be checked out.Car oil light comes on when idling and speedometre doesnt work!!!?
All you need is to take your car for tuning, maybe the oil light is faulty? check the oil yourself, if the oil is fine so there is no worries, just check your fuss box.

Your speedometer is loss or you might need a new one.

Thin oil will not cause the light to come on, lights only comes on when oil is low or the light is faulty.
The garage may have put in the 'wrong' oil,...check..could also be ticking over too slow, you're Dad's probably right (Dad's usually are) also a wire may have been disconnected accidentally from the speedo sender unit when the cyl. head was removed, pop back into garage and ask them to take a look.
The oil light comes on when the oil pressure is low...this is usually caused by worn rod and main bearings... it's also possible you damaged the oil pump, when the belt broke.....

If you have a lot of miles, it's likely to be the bearings...heavier oil will solve that....
well most likely something wasnt dont right or more dmages might have been done but id repalce oil sending unit cost about 20 bucks just unscrews pretty easy for anyone to replace it and then might the shop used the wrong type oil or didnt do a good job
yes, sound like the oils to thin
