Can someone tell me about this?Synthetic oil in a car?
To me it was good #1 less friction in the engine #2 Changin the oil a lot less often, # 3 Cold weather starts were a lot easier. #4 I believed it ran cooler too.Synthetic oil in a car?
Synthetic oil is in general much better than conventional oil. Ask the owner if he has used synthetic from the start. If he has, continue with synthetic if you buy the vehicle, the engine will last longer.
If the owner just started using synthetic but the vehicle used conventional the whole time, switch back to conventional as it will decrease oil leaks from the gaskets.
Is oil,
burns at higher temperature than regular oil and does better job of protecting the engine.
But is more expensive
As for driving longer, yes, you can, but does not mean you should. Mobile 1 syn. recommends that you follow manufacturers oil change interval regardless of the type of the oil you use.
In my personal experience, if you flush oil at every 3000, no point using synthetic. Regular oil does not break down at 3000 so using synthetic would be waste of money.
At 5000, regular oil start to break down, but synthetic is OK. I pushed the synthetic up to 7000K. Due to the high level of detergent, you won't have to worry about engine sludging problem even at 7000K, but synthetic should start to break down at this point. (least your oil filter needs to be replaced at this time) So I would not go more than 5000 miles even with synthetic oil. If your car has turbo, I would replace oil at 3000 even for synthetic.
Syntheric is good. It is costlier but you can go 5,000 miles before changing. Some say you can go 7,000 miles before changing. However once you use synthetic is is not advisable to go back to conventional oil. Read following link:
