I've a friend who's buying vegetable oil from Lidl in 25ltr drums for 70pence per ltr and is using it straight in his car, 2years now no problems.

But beware it's still illegal because you haven't paid tax on the fuel, all fuel is liable to tax, you will get the same fine if customs stop you as you would if you where running on agricultural diesel.
if you add methanol it raises your gas milege and it is safer and you nee to filter the oil out
The ';MYTHBUSTERS'; did a test on vegetable oil to see if it would run, and it did.

Thing is, it has to be clean and filtered to get all the gunk out of it, before you let it get into the system. But it worked like a charm.

So yes, you can use vegetable oil but personally, I think it would work better mixed with diesel..
a converter do you know how it works gas blows up oil burns so oil needs heat
depends on the car! some cant because the oil reacts with the type of rubber seals they use (BMW for instance) others can use it neat (Citroen Peugeot's). its easiest to use veggie oil from the supermarket as used oil has to be filtered and heated to remove the bits and water then when cooled the fat skimmed of! if you are in a cold climate the oil needs to be preheated. you will need to change your fuel filter more often as any bits in your tank will be picked up by the oil as it is thicker than diesel. apparently in France the diesel from the pumps has 10% bio-diesel added by law! it IS legal to use veggie oil in the UK BUT you MUST pay fuel duty on the oil you use.
My experience of trying just one litre of new vegetable oil in a tank of diesel was that it clogged my injectors, Vegetable oil might work in old fashionned diesels but I cannot reccommend it for modern common rail systems or the HPT engines

Cost me a lot more than I could ever save
Diesel
It depends on what climate you are living in, colder climates need to have the oil heated and all vegetable oil should have its own tank and filter system, you have to use good oil, not the stuff from fast food joints, if you are in warmer climates, then I have known people to add the filtered oil straight into their fuel tanks, probably not a great idea but it works.
for every litre of veg oil you need 99% veg oil and 1 % turps but check if right on the turps. Babe if I remember I will get in touch again. I know you can run deisel from chipfat from chippy if you strain it to get the bits out. but you may be pulled because it smells of fish and chips lol.
Vegetable oil will cause smoke and damage your engine .

Try to know about Viscosity of different oils.
