Royal purple
I love Mobil 1 synthetic! they have one that is like a 5W-50 so it handles extreme cold and heat rather well. They have one that is acctually used by dealers in brand new cars like corvettes, bmws and other expensive sports cars. I bought a used car, changed to synthetic mobil1 (the one with the blue cap)use premium gas only and put in Boshes Quantum 4 sparg plugs. My gas milage increased rediculasely! it use to be 280 miles to a 12 gallon tank but now its 360 miles to my 12 gallon tank. So my answer is...................MOBIL1
Let me start by telling you that I am a 20 year ASE Master, and am in the process of buying my own shop. I'm a distributor of Amsoil synthetic oil. I started using it in my wife's car at 165,000 miles, and my truck at 172,000 miles. When working out the costs, running organic oil and changing your oil every 3000 miles or running Amsoil and changing it every 7500 miles, it's a wash. Keep in mind that you want to run a premium oil filter for extended life oil, since while the oil holds up longer, there are still deposits that need to be filtered out. The advantage is that you do not have to take the time to have your car serviced as often. In my case, I don't have to worry about my wife driving over the specified mileage as much.

Consumer Reports tested synthetic oils, and rated Amsoil higher than Mobil 1, which is pretty much the industry standard. Amsoil is also cheaper. There are plenty of synthetics out there, I recommend checking their quality with Consumer Reports or similiar testers.

It is my opinion that nobody builds a higher quality car than Honda, bar none. I personally drive a 22 year old Toyota 4x4, because Honda never built anything like it. My wife drives a Pontiac Grand Prix, because she loves it. Your car, on regular oil and maintainance should be good for 250,000 miles or so. More like 400,000 on synthetic. A tip: keep your oil change and maintainance reciepts. It will increase your resale value. Great choice of cars. Take good care of it. I have a 15 year old stepson who will be driving next year. I will be buying him a Honda Civic. High quality, great mileage, low maintainance and repair costs, very safe car (see crash tests). Can't beat it. Look at your VIN, a number 1 for the first digit means it was built here in the USA.
I use Valvoline oil products.
Valvoline,Mobil 1,Royal Purple
I'd go with mobil one..... why? sure amsoil IS better...., but just google amsoil up.... whats right behind them, almost (and I mean real close) as good..... mobil one.....

Plus the availability is next to none..... which can be a factor....

I wouldn't hesitate to run pennzoil platinum, mobil 1, redline, or royal purple..... all are great syns.....
well first of all it doesn't really matter what brand you use any of the major brands are fine. But the one thing that strikes me odd is that you say 5w30. I am almost certain that your car requires a 5w20 oil for the warranty. I know that Ford and Honda have all gone to 5w20 oils. But any way all brands of synthetic are good. The one I would suggest and only because it is the easiest to find if you ever have to add some is Mobil 1. The others are good but what if you are a quart low and you go to the local store on your trip and try to find a bottle of royal purple or amsoil. Good luck with that. Mobil 1 has been around for ever and is virtually at any store that sells oil. But any way check into the 5w20 thing first then look for the synthetic of your choice.

  • Too much oil in my car. I put too much oil in my car will it hurt it? Should I take it back out?

You didn't say how much is too much. But yes, too much oil in your engine can harm it. Way too much could inhibit the movement of the pistons/rods causing major damage. I doubt that you put that much too much in. Oil levels significantly above the full mark can cause oil foaming in the crankcase which could lead to the oil pump becoming vapor bound - loss of oil pressure. If you have more than a quart extra, in a 4 quart system, I'd remove the extra oilToo much oil in my car. I put too much oil in my car will it hurt it? Should I take it back out?
Take out the extra oil ... Too much oil will cause damage to your engine .Too much oil in my car. I put too much oil in my car will it hurt it? Should I take it back out?
An old car will just burn it or spit it out, a new one will idle funny and odd.

Can't burn an engine with too much oil
Yes you should it will put a strain on the motor.
YES, to much can cause foaming.

If this is when you changed oil, have you started the car? the oil level will be high till the oil filter fills, about a 1/2 quart on most cars

A 1/2 quart isn't that much to worry about but take it easy.

Anything more then that drain it and refill to the correct level.
Yeah it'll tear up your engine. Get it out of there before you try to drive it.
Why is a BMW burning oil in the first place?
Check the manual of your car. Generally, it makes no good to an engine if it is overloaded by oil.
yes, the level should be corrected.it could cause you problems,it

could get into the intake air system through the PCV system.
Any car can burn oil, BMWs aren't immune.

But to much oil will load the engine too much. Also it will start to froth and foam, reducing the lubrication it provides. Also, it will be pushed out of the crancase vent to the PCV, clogging it and dragging more oil out with it, so your oil consumption will go up.
yes and yes you should never over fill anything.when it comes to your car.
Yes to much oil will definitely hurt the car you need to take some out asap
if you have to much oil in your oil sump, the crankshaft will cause the extra oil to turn into sludge and then it will ruin alot more than you think and you will have to get another engine or another car.
Just a notch above the 'full' mark on the dipstick? I wouldn't worry too much.

But if it is way too much, you must drain it down to the level.

Liquids, unlike gas, cannot be compressed. This means, if there is too much oil, the crank shaft has to work way harder. It burns more gas plus more importantly it will damage the engine or, over time it will burn oil because the piston rings are damaged.
    No......add another 2 quarts
No, it wont hurt it, but if you reallyt must, you can take the plug out of the oil pan and drain a bit out
immediately stop driving the vehicle. You should have the oil drained and then refilled to the right level. Expect your engine to destroy itself if you keep driving it overfilled.
Yes! I did that once. Totally messed up the engine. Then again, the car was an '82 Cutlass.

Is it ok to overfill your car with motor oil?

the oil level on the dipstick is one inch over the F lineIs it ok to overfill your car with motor oil?
    NO!!!!

Is my car drivable? oil gage faulty?

MY Porsche 911 on board computer says that Oil Temperature gage faulty. What exactly is that? Is the car drivable or is there a chance that it will overheat and cause engine troubles? Is my car drivable? oil gage faulty?
my answer is try to check it out first on auto repair shop..Is my car drivable? oil gage faulty?
if you don't have oil pressure you engine will seize. if it were mine i would try to install a manual Gage to see if you have oil press. if you do then the car is drivable. if not sounds like time for an overhaul.

How can I get my husband to be more proactive in our household i.e. taking the car for oil changes, trash day?

He seems to think that nothing is worth doing until it's a problem -which means he expects me to jump up and help him fix the problems he could've prevented. I hate doing ALL of the planning. (He may or may not make repairs in the house -IF he sees me make headway.) He says he has too much to think about. We don't have kids. We have one house, 3 vehicles. (Only the one I bought is in use.) What's there to think about? He was recently arrested (his car towed) and now he's due in court this month bc he didn't pay a year-old traffic ticket! Arggghhh! Now that car has $1600 in fines! Help. How can I get my husband to be more proactive in our household i.e. taking the car for oil changes, trash day?
First of all you should write down all the things in a new book just for him write down the dollar amount it cost the family. Then plan a day out just for the two of you, something he likes maybe a full body massage, out to dinner,or a day at the park.Spend some time with him let him have fun then after a few hours, tell him the reason why you brought him here is because of these problems, and open the book and CALMLY AND IN A LOW TONE VOICE NOT SCREAMING talk about the problems. If it happens again do it again and again,he will catch on, after a while. All men can be trained. How can I get my husband to be more proactive in our household i.e. taking the car for oil changes, trash day?
Sounds like you need to have a talk with him and tell him buddy you need to help around the house more. Maybe he doesn't realize that he is not helping out as much as he should. Sounds like he doesn't care..............Thank goodness you don't have kids, I think it would make things worse.
You teach people how to treat you. Most likely he continues to let things build up because he knows you will help. Let him know that this can not continue. A marriage should be equal. You both should be making mature decision that will help you build a home together. Tell him to think of the future. It sounds like you two need to have a heart to heart. Tell him what you want for the future. Since you are already married you need to make sure your on the same page.
Sorry to say, your husband is a loser. You could probably do a lot better, and you should divorce him now while there aren't any kids. You're probably better off alone, even. At least then you're not paying for his irresponsible behavior.

I'm not a fan of home improvement myself, and I'd rather hire it done, but I'm apparently the only one who cares about trash getting out in my household - so I do it 100% of the time.
Some men are just babies abd b/c you probably handled all of the household issues and family business in the past, you have enabled him to become lazy.

Let's not talk about the traffic issue...let's just say that my husband has your husband beat in that area...but he is awesome with household chores and stuff like that.

Put your foot down and simply stop doing the chores. Start cleaning up after yourself only!!! and tell him the old rules don't apply..you are his wife and not his mother!!!
I would reward him with sex. If youre not having sex, then the ';stuff on his mind'; is probably another woman. If you have no kids, get out now while you can. There are so many nice guys in this world, im sure you can do better.
Yes, I would create a sexual reward program for him. If he does something aroudn the house reward him!!!
A marriage take two people to make it work.It sounds like you are in this one alone.I will tell you what I keep telling my niece about her husband. If he isn't helping your situation he's hurting it.You shouldn't make things harder on yourself than they already are.You should find someone whom wants to be married and whom will appreciate having a woman in his life like you.
It sounds like a cattle prod might be a good tool for this job. A couple of good shocks from the old prod will snap his lazy a s s into action.
I hate to stand in judgement but your husband sounds LAZY. Has he no ambition ?? If he was thinking, he wouldn't be in the mess hes in right now. Arggghhh !

    What's he good for?

I'll bet your having a few regrets. I wish I knew what to tell you. Sometimes a seperation for space to think yourself would be a good wakeup call for him and perhaps turn him around if he wants to save this marriage.

Be glad you have no children with him. You have a better choice.

Does he keep himself clean ?? If not, he could be a victim of depression. There is help for that !!

You be the judge !!! Good Luck to you %26amp; happy New Year !!
You have 2 choices...you can either hire someone to do the work and let your hubby pay for it with HIS money or you can go to a nearby sex shop and get a coupon book and everytime he does something that you like.....give him a coupon so that he can redeem it at any time he desires. You can always get them to do what you want with sex. That is my suggestions... HAVE FUN!!
my wife uses Hubby point to get what she wont's out of me . You see i can turn in the hubby Point For Sex an Night out with the boys. so i now have over 25 hubby points this year and i can what to turn them in.
Whatever problems he's created, let him handle it; DO NOT help him in any way. If the garbage needs taking out, put it in front of the door, so he has to trip over it going outside. If repairs need to be done in your house, pay someone else to do it, don't rely on him.

Be glad and thankful that you don't have children with this person, because they'd be just like him, or worse. If he needs a ride somewhere, don't give him one; tell him to use one of the other cars, or take the bus. Obviously, he's still acting like a child, wanting Mommy to take care of him; don't become a Mommy for this guy, because he will never grow up. Good luck.

I got car engine oil in my eye?

what should i do?like i was changing my oil and i drip hit my eye...I got car engine oil in my eye?
Most important - do the long, continuous flush with water (or the saline washes, if they're around your shop). If you were changing hot oil, I'd play it safe if I were your and have it checked. If it was warm oil and it was a light splash, do the long, long wash, and do a little self assessment.

You might get a little irritated in your conjunctiva from all the washing and the oil, but that should fade over a short bit. If your eye continues to bother you over the span of more than an hour, or if you feel a scratchy/burning sensation when you blink, or if you wake up the next morning with eye pain, see a doctor.

If you're paranoid and/or if your eye is just really in pain, then get it attended to right away.

And most important - none of us is actually seeing you. Don't take our word as 100% law, and don't play around with your vision. A medical evaluation is far, far more accurate than us wrenchers!I got car engine oil in my eye?
.you know what, i have worked in a lube shop for almost 20 years, and i have had that happen on a few different occasions. it blurs the vision for a little bit then nothing else that i have noticed.
I hate it when that happens!! Wash it with water for about 10-15 minutes, if it keeps bothering you or the oil was hot go see the doc.
I find that a little engine oil in the eye helps it to move better. I have even used WD-40 to quick glances.
I have had it happen a lot no problems yet but what you should do is get some safety glasses.
just flush your eye out with water its worked for me in the past. I would go to a doctor just in case.
Go to the doctor just in case

Oil Change...I'm short on cash this month and I want to know since i barely have any oil left in my car.?

can I just go to Auto Zone, get the right oil for my car and put oil in it myself. And get my oil changed next month. Will I mess something up if I do this?Oil Change...I'm short on cash this month and I want to know since i barely have any oil left in my car.?
nope, all you need depending on what vehicle you have is, some 5W-30 or 10W-30 oil(thats the standard weight). Any brand is fine, but be consistent with which one, ide say dont get quaker state, or havoline. Most other oils ive found are fine. If you have oil showing up on the dip stick, do not put a full quart of oil in. Add in small increments, such as if its at the bottom end of the stick, add a half a quart, if its halfway up the marker of the stick, add just under a 1/4 of a quart. Just add in small amounts till you can check the dipstick and make sure its at the proper level.Oil Change...I'm short on cash this month and I want to know since i barely have any oil left in my car.?
Add the oil. It's much more important to keep the proper amount of oil in the engine than it is to have the oil changed every 3000 miles. You can easily go 6000 to 7500 miles between oil changes under normal driving conditions.
Yes, definentley top your oil up for now. But don't put it in the wrong hole as this ';will'; spell disaster.
go ahead and just add oil to it. It wont hurt anything...running out of oil will
