The car is 98 Kia Sephia. Any estimate on repair costs? I'm financially strapped. Would smoke stop so I can drive without any repairs but add oil every week?My car burns oil. After I added oil, big white smoke blew from pipe. What is problem? Shd i tow? Or just drive
Usually when a car puffs white smoke it means that ntifreeze is getting in the cylinders..Have you checked your coolant level...if low, then probably blown head gasket...If the smoke is black then I would say that you either need to replace the valve stem seals or you might have bottom end damage..like broke rings on the pistons, causing blow by.. Have you check for oil leaks under you car? That might be where the oil is going...And check the pcv system...My car burns oil. After I added oil, big white smoke blew from pipe. What is problem? Shd i tow? Or just drive
White smoke usually means a cracked block or a blown head gasket.
Sorry to say both are very expensive. You have coolant getting into your cylinders.
If you keep on driving it you will quickly ruin the engine.
You're looking at at least $2,500.00 to repair.
You could try an oil change and have them use synthetic oil. It costs a little more but it does not burn like regular motor oil. But you will need to get it checked out eventually for seal leaks.
Kia and other korean brand are not so suitable in south Asia because of our road and our fuel, maxcimum fuel station mix kerosine in petrol,so you must sale that car because of most of Indian are crazy for foreign goods.
White smoke is only condensation which is normal. You only need to worry about Blue Smoke (oil burning) and or Black Smoke ( Fuel mixture too rich) Be sure to check oil by dipstick as a gauge may be wrong. Also check for oil leaks. The only time to worry about white smoke is if it smells like anti freeze as this is a sign of a blown head gasket.

My friend put motor oil in my car's brake tank. Is this Bad for the car?
YeahMy friend put motor oil in my car's brake tank. Is this Bad for the car?
You need to completely flush out all of the brake fluid from your system b4 you drive, the car oil( because of the detergents in it) is very corrosive to all of your brake parts especially the rubber parts in the brake components. You need to run at leats a gallon of brake fluid through the entire system.Open all the bleeder screws and pupmp the pedal untilthe fluid is completely gone 5-6 times and then bleed the brakes as normally wouldMy friend put motor oil in my car's brake tank. Is this Bad for the car?
Do not drive your vehicle. Do not pass GO, do not collect $200. Run, do not walk, to your nearest phone and call a tow truck and have your vehicle transported to the nearest mechanic. If you have depressed the brake pedal the entire brake system is likely contaminated and will require extensive repair including replacement of the master cylinder, wheel cylinders/calipers and total flush of all lines. If you have comprehensive coverage on your auto insurance this is likely a covered loss. One last piece of advice: keep your 'friend' away from your car in the future.
You bet it's bad! The entire brake system should be flushed immediately with fresh brake fluid. Motor oil will ruin all the O rings and seals throughout the brake system. It also will boil because of the heat inside the calipers and wheel cylinders. Brake fluid boils at 525 degrees Fahrenheit motor oil on the other-hand boils between 160 -230 degrees Fahrenheit. This means the car will not stop when the oil starts boiling in the brake system.
Get it done ASAP at any auto repair shop who has a brake flushing system.
yes get a rag and get it out of there now or it will cost you the next thing to do is go get a bottle of brake fluid and bleed the brakes ---hurry cause you can beat thedamage before it haqppens
yes it,s bad! if he has,nt hit the brake yet, tell him to take a rag and get it out and put brake fluid in. if he already hit the brake, he will have to bleed the brakes.
bleed the whole system, all wheels and replce with dot3 brake fluid the motor oil is flamable in high heat brake system
Motor oil will swell up all the rubber parts in the brake system and that's not good.
Hope your friend has lots of money.ie toolbar

Why did my mom sit in her car with the hood up while my dad checked the oil and water in her car for her? ?
She was taking my brother and I to school that morning and he checked the oil and water in her car for her while she sat in it with the hood up and why is that and I need 20 answers in all please. Why did my mom sit in her car with the hood up while my dad checked the oil and water in her car for her? ?
Because he was the one checking it, not her. It's crowded under that hood, and it only takes one person to do the job. It's something that men do for women that helps to make them feel loved and looked after: or ';secure';. Security is a built in biological issue with women. A man that doesn't provide a degree of security for ';his woman'; often finds himself without one. Little things like this go a long way in the bonding process between mates. Why did my mom sit in her car with the hood up while my dad checked the oil and water in her car for her? ?
Because it doesn't make sense to jump out of the car. Why would you? You sit in the car so you can hit whatever lever or button is necessary to 'pop the hood' so the hood goes up. Do you jump out of the car at that point? No. Is it fascinating to watch someone check the oil? No. Is it more invigorating to stand on a street or in the driveway than to sit in the car and perhaps read a book or look through your purse or just think about all the things you have planned to do? NO.
Your parents seem to be stuck in the olden days when Dad was Mr. Macho and Mom was too weak and dumb to do things herself. Every female should know how to check all the stuff in her engine and to change her own tire if flat. Guys should know how to iron, sew and cook.
Well son..... If it isn't under the gas cap, most women don't really want to know anything about it. And to tell you the truth, there's allot of men that should leave it alone too.
Awww, oil and water guy! I knew you'd be back! Maybe now you'll finally crack the mystery behind this oil and water business you're so obsessed about. Good luck!
Is there a reason she shouldn't? Seems pretty normal to me. He checks the oil while she waits.
so you are upset that your mom didnt...help him? i think your dad did a gallant thing to help a damsel in distress. go dad! :)
lol go ask your mom

My car shut off driving down the road earlier, and it seemed to be out of oil. am i screwed?
i added more oil to it and it still won't crank. i thought the engine might be jammed, but it still makes the cranking sound and everything normal so i figure it may be the fuel pump or a fuse. but i can really use an expert's opinion. (its a 95 acura integra)My car shut off driving down the road earlier, and it seemed to be out of oil. am i screwed?
If by ';cranking sound'; you mean the engine is turning over normally and if it sounds just like it would prior to firing up, it will be something not too desperate. Trying to bump start with some help from two or three people might work.My car shut off driving down the road earlier, and it seemed to be out of oil. am i screwed?
If it seized up because of no or very low oil, it might have permanent damage. However, it's possible it'll be drivable again after it cools down, and the seized parts let go of each other. That can take several hours.
I've had seized engines free up after several hours, so it's possible..
What told you it was low on oil? You don't say you looked at the dipstick.
Sounds like you have a maintenance issue. Could be ignition, computer, or fuel pump. You'll need to get it to a garage to have it checked. Too little info in your question to diagnose specifics.

If i was to run my car on hemp or rape oil how much in acres of land would i need to do 10000 miles a year?
just wondering if this biofuel idea is possible in reality,If i was to run my car on hemp or rape oil how much in acres of land would i need to do 10000 miles a year?
';Rape Oil';? what the hell are you talking about????If i was to run my car on hemp or rape oil how much in acres of land would i need to do 10000 miles a year?
we call rape canola now , for obvious reasons, give us more info. like current mpg. crop yield etc. anything is possible that does not violate the laws of physics
about 8' x 8'.
That's about the space you would get in prison.
64sq feet.
check out hempcar.org
I don't think it will work - but, I'll watch for answers. You never know.
What? You would actually waste that much weed?
at 20 MPG 500 acres if one crop a year, 250 acres if 2 crops per year.
It costs less to farm 500 acres than it does to drill oil, but it costs less to refine oil than it does to refine seed.
Overall seed is moe expensive and would be about 20% more expensive for the same milage with no harmfull gas.
For you who don't know what rape oil is. It is the oil from rape seeds For political correctness they changed the name to canola.

Will a pass the maryland emission with a oil leak car?
My car is having the oil leak problem around the timing chain cover. But the emission test is coming. My car is not leaking very badly, only a few drop in every few seconds. Will I pass the Maryland emission test while my car is leaking? Will a pass the maryland emission with a oil leak car?
Chances are you will pass...
However if ur check engine light is on they will hook u up to thier diagnostic computer and see why it says that, or they could possibly fail you for having a check engine light on?? Either way get that fixed asap! I know its annoying money to have to spend, but it will just be more money the longer you wait!
Take care...GOOD LUCK!Will a pass the maryland emission with a oil leak car?
What does an oil leak have to do with what is burning in your cylinders and coming out of your exhaust pipe?
If you were talking about a ';vehicle inspection';, then you'd fail, but emmissions? You're probably OK.
It's just a darn revenue trap anyway.

Whats the best perfomance 5w-30 synthetic oil to put in my car? any suggjestions...?
I just recently bought a 07 civic si, and in search for one oil good snythetic oil to stick with for along time. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ThanksWhats the best perfomance 5w-30 synthetic oil to put in my car? any suggjestions...?
Redline oil is the best, available at Napa auto parts :)Whats the best perfomance 5w-30 synthetic oil to put in my car? any suggjestions...?

I love Mobil 1 synthetic! they have one that is like a 5W-50 so it handles extreme cold and heat rather well. They have one that is acctually used by dealers in brand new cars like corvettes, bmws and other expensive sports cars. I bought a used car, changed to synthetic mobil1 (the one with the blue cap)use premium gas only and put in Boshes Quantum 4 sparg plugs. My gas milage increased rediculasely! it use to be 280 miles to a 12 gallon tank but now its 360 miles to my 12 gallon tank. So my answer is...................MOBIL1
Let me start by telling you that I am a 20 year ASE Master, and am in the process of buying my own shop. I'm a distributor of Amsoil synthetic oil. I started using it in my wife's car at 165,000 miles, and my truck at 172,000 miles. When working out the costs, running organic oil and changing your oil every 3000 miles or running Amsoil and changing it every 7500 miles, it's a wash. Keep in mind that you want to run a premium oil filter for extended life oil, since while the oil holds up longer, there are still deposits that need to be filtered out. The advantage is that you do not have to take the time to have your car serviced as often. In my case, I don't have to worry about my wife driving over the specified mileage as much.
Consumer Reports tested synthetic oils, and rated Amsoil higher than Mobil 1, which is pretty much the industry standard. Amsoil is also cheaper. There are plenty of synthetics out there, I recommend checking their quality with Consumer Reports or similiar testers.
It is my opinion that nobody builds a higher quality car than Honda, bar none. I personally drive a 22 year old Toyota 4x4, because Honda never built anything like it. My wife drives a Pontiac Grand Prix, because she loves it. Your car, on regular oil and maintainance should be good for 250,000 miles or so. More like 400,000 on synthetic. A tip: keep your oil change and maintainance reciepts. It will increase your resale value. Great choice of cars. Take good care of it. I have a 15 year old stepson who will be driving next year. I will be buying him a Honda Civic. High quality, great mileage, low maintainance and repair costs, very safe car (see crash tests). Can't beat it. Look at your VIN, a number 1 for the first digit means it was built here in the USA.
I use Valvoline oil products.

I'd go with mobil one..... why? sure amsoil IS better...., but just google amsoil up.... whats right behind them, almost (and I mean real close) as good..... mobil one.....
Plus the availability is next to none..... which can be a factor....
I wouldn't hesitate to run pennzoil platinum, mobil 1, redline, or royal purple..... all are great syns.....
well first of all it doesn't really matter what brand you use any of the major brands are fine. But the one thing that strikes me odd is that you say 5w30. I am almost certain that your car requires a 5w20 oil for the warranty. I know that Ford and Honda have all gone to 5w20 oils. But any way all brands of synthetic are good. The one I would suggest and only because it is the easiest to find if you ever have to add some is Mobil 1. The others are good but what if you are a quart low and you go to the local store on your trip and try to find a bottle of royal purple or amsoil. Good luck with that. Mobil 1 has been around for ever and is virtually at any store that sells oil. But any way check into the 5w20 thing first then look for the synthetic of your choice.ie toolbar

Too much oil in my car. I put too much oil in my car will it hurt it? Should I take it back out?
You didn't say how much is too much. But yes, too much oil in your engine can harm it. Way too much could inhibit the movement of the pistons/rods causing major damage. I doubt that you put that much too much in. Oil levels significantly above the full mark can cause oil foaming in the crankcase which could lead to the oil pump becoming vapor bound - loss of oil pressure. If you have more than a quart extra, in a 4 quart system, I'd remove the extra oilToo much oil in my car. I put too much oil in my car will it hurt it? Should I take it back out?
Take out the extra oil ... Too much oil will cause damage to your engine .Too much oil in my car. I put too much oil in my car will it hurt it? Should I take it back out?
An old car will just burn it or spit it out, a new one will idle funny and odd.
Can't burn an engine with too much oil
Yes you should it will put a strain on the motor.
YES, to much can cause foaming.
If this is when you changed oil, have you started the car? the oil level will be high till the oil filter fills, about a 1/2 quart on most cars
A 1/2 quart isn't that much to worry about but take it easy.
Anything more then that drain it and refill to the correct level.
Yeah it'll tear up your engine. Get it out of there before you try to drive it.
Why is a BMW burning oil in the first place?
Check the manual of your car. Generally, it makes no good to an engine if it is overloaded by oil.
yes, the level should be corrected.it could cause you problems,it
could get into the intake air system through the PCV system.
Any car can burn oil, BMWs aren't immune.
But to much oil will load the engine too much. Also it will start to froth and foam, reducing the lubrication it provides. Also, it will be pushed out of the crancase vent to the PCV, clogging it and dragging more oil out with it, so your oil consumption will go up.
yes and yes you should never over fill anything.when it comes to your car.
Yes to much oil will definitely hurt the car you need to take some out asap
if you have to much oil in your oil sump, the crankshaft will cause the extra oil to turn into sludge and then it will ruin alot more than you think and you will have to get another engine or another car.
Just a notch above the 'full' mark on the dipstick? I wouldn't worry too much.
But if it is way too much, you must drain it down to the level.
Liquids, unlike gas, cannot be compressed. This means, if there is too much oil, the crank shaft has to work way harder. It burns more gas plus more importantly it will damage the engine or, over time it will burn oil because the piston rings are damaged.
No......add another 2 quarts
No, it wont hurt it, but if you reallyt must, you can take the plug out of the oil pan and drain a bit out
immediately stop driving the vehicle. You should have the oil drained and then refilled to the right level. Expect your engine to destroy itself if you keep driving it overfilled.
Yes! I did that once. Totally messed up the engine. Then again, the car was an '82 Cutlass.

Is it ok to overfill your car with motor oil?
the oil level on the dipstick is one inch over the F lineIs it ok to overfill your car with motor oil?
NO!!!!
NO!!!!
Is my car drivable? oil gage faulty?
MY Porsche 911 on board computer says that Oil Temperature gage faulty. What exactly is that? Is the car drivable or is there a chance that it will overheat and cause engine troubles? Is my car drivable? oil gage faulty?
my answer is try to check it out first on auto repair shop..Is my car drivable? oil gage faulty?
if you don't have oil pressure you engine will seize. if it were mine i would try to install a manual Gage to see if you have oil press. if you do then the car is drivable. if not sounds like time for an overhaul.

How can I get my husband to be more proactive in our household i.e. taking the car for oil changes, trash day?
He seems to think that nothing is worth doing until it's a problem -which means he expects me to jump up and help him fix the problems he could've prevented. I hate doing ALL of the planning. (He may or may not make repairs in the house -IF he sees me make headway.) He says he has too much to think about. We don't have kids. We have one house, 3 vehicles. (Only the one I bought is in use.) What's there to think about? He was recently arrested (his car towed) and now he's due in court this month bc he didn't pay a year-old traffic ticket! Arggghhh! Now that car has $1600 in fines! Help. How can I get my husband to be more proactive in our household i.e. taking the car for oil changes, trash day?
First of all you should write down all the things in a new book just for him write down the dollar amount it cost the family. Then plan a day out just for the two of you, something he likes maybe a full body massage, out to dinner,or a day at the park.Spend some time with him let him have fun then after a few hours, tell him the reason why you brought him here is because of these problems, and open the book and CALMLY AND IN A LOW TONE VOICE NOT SCREAMING talk about the problems. If it happens again do it again and again,he will catch on, after a while. All men can be trained. How can I get my husband to be more proactive in our household i.e. taking the car for oil changes, trash day?
Sounds like you need to have a talk with him and tell him buddy you need to help around the house more. Maybe he doesn't realize that he is not helping out as much as he should. Sounds like he doesn't care..............Thank goodness you don't have kids, I think it would make things worse.
You teach people how to treat you. Most likely he continues to let things build up because he knows you will help. Let him know that this can not continue. A marriage should be equal. You both should be making mature decision that will help you build a home together. Tell him to think of the future. It sounds like you two need to have a heart to heart. Tell him what you want for the future. Since you are already married you need to make sure your on the same page.
Sorry to say, your husband is a loser. You could probably do a lot better, and you should divorce him now while there aren't any kids. You're probably better off alone, even. At least then you're not paying for his irresponsible behavior.
I'm not a fan of home improvement myself, and I'd rather hire it done, but I'm apparently the only one who cares about trash getting out in my household - so I do it 100% of the time.
Some men are just babies abd b/c you probably handled all of the household issues and family business in the past, you have enabled him to become lazy.
Let's not talk about the traffic issue...let's just say that my husband has your husband beat in that area...but he is awesome with household chores and stuff like that.
Put your foot down and simply stop doing the chores. Start cleaning up after yourself only!!! and tell him the old rules don't apply..you are his wife and not his mother!!!
I would reward him with sex. If youre not having sex, then the ';stuff on his mind'; is probably another woman. If you have no kids, get out now while you can. There are so many nice guys in this world, im sure you can do better.
Yes, I would create a sexual reward program for him. If he does something aroudn the house reward him!!!
A marriage take two people to make it work.It sounds like you are in this one alone.I will tell you what I keep telling my niece about her husband. If he isn't helping your situation he's hurting it.You shouldn't make things harder on yourself than they already are.You should find someone whom wants to be married and whom will appreciate having a woman in his life like you.
It sounds like a cattle prod might be a good tool for this job. A couple of good shocks from the old prod will snap his lazy a s s into action.
I hate to stand in judgement but your husband sounds LAZY. Has he no ambition ?? If he was thinking, he wouldn't be in the mess hes in right now. Arggghhh !
What's he good for?
I'll bet your having a few regrets. I wish I knew what to tell you. Sometimes a seperation for space to think yourself would be a good wakeup call for him and perhaps turn him around if he wants to save this marriage.
Be glad you have no children with him. You have a better choice.
Does he keep himself clean ?? If not, he could be a victim of depression. There is help for that !!
You be the judge !!! Good Luck to you %26amp; happy New Year !!
You have 2 choices...you can either hire someone to do the work and let your hubby pay for it with HIS money or you can go to a nearby sex shop and get a coupon book and everytime he does something that you like.....give him a coupon so that he can redeem it at any time he desires. You can always get them to do what you want with sex. That is my suggestions... HAVE FUN!!
my wife uses Hubby point to get what she wont's out of me . You see i can turn in the hubby Point For Sex an Night out with the boys. so i now have over 25 hubby points this year and i can what to turn them in.
Whatever problems he's created, let him handle it; DO NOT help him in any way. If the garbage needs taking out, put it in front of the door, so he has to trip over it going outside. If repairs need to be done in your house, pay someone else to do it, don't rely on him.
Be glad and thankful that you don't have children with this person, because they'd be just like him, or worse. If he needs a ride somewhere, don't give him one; tell him to use one of the other cars, or take the bus. Obviously, he's still acting like a child, wanting Mommy to take care of him; don't become a Mommy for this guy, because he will never grow up. Good luck.

I got car engine oil in my eye?
what should i do?like i was changing my oil and i drip hit my eye...I got car engine oil in my eye?
Most important - do the long, continuous flush with water (or the saline washes, if they're around your shop). If you were changing hot oil, I'd play it safe if I were your and have it checked. If it was warm oil and it was a light splash, do the long, long wash, and do a little self assessment.
You might get a little irritated in your conjunctiva from all the washing and the oil, but that should fade over a short bit. If your eye continues to bother you over the span of more than an hour, or if you feel a scratchy/burning sensation when you blink, or if you wake up the next morning with eye pain, see a doctor.
If you're paranoid and/or if your eye is just really in pain, then get it attended to right away.
And most important - none of us is actually seeing you. Don't take our word as 100% law, and don't play around with your vision. A medical evaluation is far, far more accurate than us wrenchers!I got car engine oil in my eye?
.you know what, i have worked in a lube shop for almost 20 years, and i have had that happen on a few different occasions. it blurs the vision for a little bit then nothing else that i have noticed.
I hate it when that happens!! Wash it with water for about 10-15 minutes, if it keeps bothering you or the oil was hot go see the doc.
I find that a little engine oil in the eye helps it to move better. I have even used WD-40 to quick glances.
I have had it happen a lot no problems yet but what you should do is get some safety glasses.
just flush your eye out with water its worked for me in the past. I would go to a doctor just in case.

Oil Change...I'm short on cash this month and I want to know since i barely have any oil left in my car.?
can I just go to Auto Zone, get the right oil for my car and put oil in it myself. And get my oil changed next month. Will I mess something up if I do this?Oil Change...I'm short on cash this month and I want to know since i barely have any oil left in my car.?
nope, all you need depending on what vehicle you have is, some 5W-30 or 10W-30 oil(thats the standard weight). Any brand is fine, but be consistent with which one, ide say dont get quaker state, or havoline. Most other oils ive found are fine. If you have oil showing up on the dip stick, do not put a full quart of oil in. Add in small increments, such as if its at the bottom end of the stick, add a half a quart, if its halfway up the marker of the stick, add just under a 1/4 of a quart. Just add in small amounts till you can check the dipstick and make sure its at the proper level.Oil Change...I'm short on cash this month and I want to know since i barely have any oil left in my car.?
Add the oil. It's much more important to keep the proper amount of oil in the engine than it is to have the oil changed every 3000 miles. You can easily go 6000 to 7500 miles between oil changes under normal driving conditions.
Yes, definentley top your oil up for now. But don't put it in the wrong hole as this ';will'; spell disaster.
go ahead and just add oil to it. It wont hurt anything...running out of oil willie toolbar

Oil change for my car. do i need to use engine flush?
my engine has only done 25 000 mile and i have been advised to use engine flush before a oil change then advised it wont need it. who do i believe?Oil change for my car. do i need to use engine flush?
If you've never changed the oil, it may not be a bad idea. You've already screwed your warranty, but that is a long time for oil to be in use. A flush will seriously thin the oil and allow far more of it to drain. Then try to stick to manufacturer recommendations on oil changes.
If you've been changing oil regularly, don't bother with a flush, just get your engine hot before the oil change. Five minutes idling is not anywhere near long enough (two miles driving will warm your oil more than 15 minutes idling) -- go for a 30 minute drive, at least, city or highway doesn't matter, so long as the engine and oil is truly hot for the oil change.Oil change for my car. do i need to use engine flush?
Tell me you haven't done 25,000 miles without an oil-change! If you HAVE had oil changes done before, I would not think that you need to flush that engine. I pour a little fresh cheap oil through when the filter is off and the sump has just drained - this makes sure that there is no old oil in the sump.
Rather than using flushing oils, if I buy an older car with a high-mileage engine on it, I buy TWO filters, and a can of cheap oil, and do a filter change and give it cheap oil for two weeks, then change oil and filter for the good stuff. I don't have problems with old engines and high mileages!
no wait til it has 200,000 miles before and really it never needs it if you change the oil when one should. more than likely i bet the person wanting you to spend more money at his shop would advise you to get more work done they you needed... been driving over 40 yrs and working on cars almost as long only time one really needs to flush any part of motor would be from age and lack of care like oil changes it dont need it if you replace oil when you should if you drive it and dont do a oil change for a year maybe yes it shoul d be done
No you dont need engine flush, especially if its a new engine.
If its an old , old, old, engine you dont know anything about then maybe but i doubt it.
But you are suppose to change your engine oil/filter every 3000 miles
to get the longest performance out of it.
I do this on my 96 silverado i bought brand new %26amp; i have 240,000 miles on it as of now.
NO!
Flush is designed to remove sludge and other oil byproducts, but what is the base for all those products? Oil.
That stuff will remove oil from essential lube points, like bearrings(rod).
It was created for higher mileage cars but some so-called techs started using it (they did not notice that most of those vehicles were cold star vehicle they sludge more than cars that are allowed enough drive time to hit normal operarating temps) on lower mileage vehicles.
Most of my vehicles have gone 300K mi. only on an oil change with oil filter every 3Kmi./3mo.
Don't fix it if it aint broke!
In about a month the computer will show ';service due'; that is after 15.000 miles, and that will be the first service, i know the ';MERCEDES'; agency will do whatever the manufacturers instructions detail them to do, and if flushing is part of it, so be it....................................
Do not use engine flush, It has harmful chemicals in it which can remain in the engine and contaminate your new oil. The best way is instead of using engine flush, use some new normal engine oil, run it hot for 10 minutes then drain immediately.
You do not need to flush out the oil sump.
Doing regular oil changes with a quality product will prevent the possibility of ';sludge'; that needs to be cleaned out.
Refer to your owner's manual for futher insight.
With the quality of today's oils, you don't need a flush, simple as that. I bet they make money on that service, since there's no way to tell if it was even done.
Make sure they don't want to flush the windshield wiper fluid system too!!
If you have changed you oil regularly (recommended maintenance) you do not need a flush. However, if you have not changed it in 25,000 miles you will be better off with the flush.
Yeah, it is very important that you do this at least for the first major service. It will get rid of all the little bits of metal taht are created when an engine is run in for the first time.
25,000 without an oil change? Have it flushed professionally!
If you have been changing the oil regularly, you don't need an engine flush.
Run the engine for 5 minutes before you take the sump plug out - warm oil will drain better. Use engine flush if you want but use plain old paraffin instead - it's cheaper by far
No you don't need Engine flush. That is just a gimmick.
Drain the oil, change the oil filter then refill it with new oil.
%26amp; your done!
If the oils been changed regularly dont bother. Just be sure to get the engine good and warm before draining the old oil.

How far over can u go before u should get the oil changed in your car?
thats completely up to you and whow much you would like to spend fixing it its recomended every 3 to 5 thousand miles try and stick with that or it could end up costing
Is it ok to overfill your car with motor oil?
the oil level on the dipstick is one inch over the F lineIs it ok to overfill your car with motor oil?
As mechanic you don't want to put more the what fills it up to the full line, a hair bit more won't hurt but that much is a bad call on whom ever did your oil change and could very possibly cause sever damage to your engine. From lifter's to seals, even bearings. The first thing to usually go is a main seal of the engine, like a rear main or engine seal internally. Which is a major expense. Go back to where you had it changed and make them do it right this time! Then take it to another place for a free inspection. Is it ok to overfill your car with motor oil?
no that's way too much oil in your engine as some others have mentioned it will whip your oil up and go frothy and this oil doesn't make a good lubricant it's not good for the engine, best to remove the sump plug and let some of that oil out slowly to get it to the correct level on the dipstick. Buy some oil just in case you let out too much oil and top it up a little bit at a time so you don't go over the full mark again...
no horrible idea, you need to make sure it is what the manufacture recommends because if you fill it too high you will have high oil pressure and also can ruin many parts such as bearings and you could also possibly lock up the engine
No.
In some rare cases, the crank shaft will whip the oil into an aerated foam which isn't a very good lubricant. At a minimum, the oil will impede the crankshaft and cost you a few horsepower.
Yeah its ok, as long as you dont mind eventually blowing your engine up.
Best to stick with the manufacturer's recommendations.
my experienced opinion, a half a quart only

My car has low oil pressure. How can I fix it?
It's a 2004 Cadillac Escalade with an engine of 6.00My car has low oil pressure. How can I fix it?
Do you work on cars? Check the main and connecting rod bearing clearance. Check the oilpump. Make sure the engine has enough oil and that the engine isn't clogged with sludge. That's a lot of very hard work. Take it to the cadillac dealer and have them fix it. When the bill comes and it's enough to buy a 10 year old Corolla that still would be running without any problems, just pay it and have the Escalade cleaned and waxed so it still looks good as the corolla runs.My car has low oil pressure. How can I fix it?
You may wish to check the oil level first off. If low on oil, filler up.

I have put too much oil in my car and white smoke is coming out of the exhaust is it safe to drive?
ford focus 1999 t reg white smoke from exhaust after i put too much oil in itI have put too much oil in my car and white smoke is coming out of the exhaust is it safe to drive?
NO!!! Drain the oil and refill it to the proper level.I have put too much oil in my car and white smoke is coming out of the exhaust is it safe to drive?
If you were burning the excess oil it would be blue smoke, white smoke (steam) indicates you are burning coolant.
Oil level too high will cause damage to the engine, burst seals, could cause a hydraulic lock up, so get it drained to the correct level before you drive very far at all.
Then you need to get it checked for where the coolant is coming from.

could damage the catalytic converter - very expensive to replace
Gawd. I'm starting to hate Yahoo point trolls.
If you add way too much oil the oil level will reach the crankshaft and the crank will churn the oil into foam, causing you to lose oil pressure and flow and making all sorts of things in the engine to die an early, gruesome death.
All you can do is get the oil to the right level and see what happens.
You could do some serious damage with to much oil. Drain it and refill to the correct level. The smoke will not stop for a while so be patient.
Because you put too much oil in it the excess pressure is forcing the oil past the piston rings, and into the cylinder. Consequentially you are burning the excess oil, causing the white smoke. You need to drain the excess oil before you blow the seals.
You've burst an oil seal and water from the coolant system is entering the combustion chamber and coming out as steam. It's safe to drive but your engine is due for an early death.
How much oil is too much? If you put in less than 6 or so quarts (1 gallon +1 quart) then you should be fine.
Make sure the smoke is white first, PURE white and not a light shade of blue. White smoke is burned coolant, and blue is burned oil. Neither of which really happens just from overfilling the oil, unless you put 2 or 3 gallons in it.
As for white smoke, are you sure it only started after this oil filling? Make sure it isn't the normal amount of smoke that you'd get from burning off excess moisture un the exhaust.

Too much oil can do as much damage to an engine as not enough.

At what mileage should i switch my japanese import car to synthetic oil?
its a 2006 suzuki grand vitara with the 2.7 litre v6At what mileage should i switch my japanese import car to synthetic oil?
You can change it whenever you like. There are a lot of old wives' tales about sytnhetic oil. Most of it is hooey perpetuated by people who don't really know about the stuff. The only real caveat concerning synthetic oil in older engines is that because the molecules comprising synthetic oil are smaller than those in conventional oil, they can fit through gaps the conventional oil cannot. This means, in an engine with very high mileage (and thus, more-worn parts with bigger clearances between them), it may burn or leak synthetic oil, but not the regular stuff. Your Grand Vitara is certainly not one of these, as I'm talking about engines with greater than 100,000 miles and the like. There are always exceptions, however, my Shelby Charger happily takes synthetic with over 160,000 miles on the odo, but a heavily abused motor may start burning synthetic oil much sooner than 100K.At what mileage should i switch my japanese import car to synthetic oil?
Listen to Harry...his explaination is exactly what I was going to say to explain ';when';...here's why...Synthetic oil lubricates the engine better than conventional oil and bonds to the engine components better than conventional oil, which provides more oil on those components on start-up. Also, I don't know of any new engine that comes with break-in oil anymore. That's a thing of the past. I would recommend changing the oil that's in it after 3,000 miles and then changing the synthetic oil every 5,000 - 6,000 miles (also, rotate the tires every oil change when on the schedule). It doesn't break down as fast as conventional oil. This is one area where you want to ignore your owner's manual...an oil change is cheap preventive maintenance.
The sooner the better. Synthetics do not work well on worn mechanical components.
Right after the break in period, ask the deal as to what the breakin period is one that vehicle, and about 300km after that period, get an oil change and switch to synthetic, but just remember, even with synthetic oil, they need to be changed at the same intervels as with regular oil. Every 5000km or 3000mi.

My car is losing gas mileage. It has new plugs, a recent oil change and the air filter is clean. Ideas?
Car only has 36000 miles, is a Kia Spectra and try to keep foot off floor. My car is losing gas mileage. It has new plugs, a recent oil change and the air filter is clean. Ideas?
ck your tire pressure make sure all four are the same, fuel additive might help also if you havent run any in awhile. not only do you have to change plugs but you might change the plug wires also, they wear out after time. Good LuckMy car is losing gas mileage. It has new plugs, a recent oil change and the air filter is clean. Ideas?
After checking the above answers, (especially tire pressure %26amp; excess weight) try a different gas station or grade of gas. If the gas has 10% ethanol, you will lose some mileage over straight gas. Some of the crap they are selling as gas these days isn't even fit to use in a lawnmower.
Most people think their car is burning more fuel, but its just the price of fuel that makes it look bad. Check you gas mileage when you are driving on a highway, not in town.
if it is a KIA it should still be under warranty if it only has 36000 miles so take it back to the dealer and see if they can figure it out
check your o2 senser makes a big diff.
First, let the car sit and check underneath for any wet spots and see if you smell any gas fumes when you get out of the car and go from there.
kia = bad choice....get rid of it.....
Get rid of it!!! easy solution isn't it? :)
Have you changed the brand of gas you use? Gas stations with higher ethanol like AM/PM, Gull, store brands.. IE.. Safeway, qfc.. etc.. get less mpg than higher end brands like Chevron/Texaco or Shell. Plus they add fuel injector cleaners to their gas.. like Techron. If you are using your air conditioner more that uses up a lot more horse power and therefore uses a lot more gas. How much less mileage are you talking? another thing gas as it gets hot can evaporate so maybe if it has been really hot and your tank isn't all the way full, some evaporation may be happening too.
At 36000 miles it's time for a tune up. Not to mention it might have a tiny leak in the gas tank.
Do you drive with the A/c on alot? If so, that will cause gas mileage to drop. If not, consider cleaning the car out. Take out all unnecessary stuff out of it. Except, spare tire, and the tools for the tire. Also consider getting a locking gas cap, as you might have a thief in your area. Yes, tires too, but the correct pressures, aren't on the tires themselves. The correct pressures will or should be listed on the door jam sticker.
You aren't carrying around a bunch of stuff are you? That will drag down your gas mileage. Are your tires properly inflated?
Kia isn't that bad....
Is the check engine light on? have the codes checked to be sure, but it sounds like o2 sensors right now, which should still be under warranty. don't they have a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty? get them to fix it.
Have you changed your driving habits or did the person that installed the new spark plugs gap them correctly or did they just throw them in right out of the box.It could be a lot of things but start by taking it back to the last place that worked on it and talk to them about your complaints.
put air in tires if it dont work get rid of evil kia
It should be under warranty at only 36,000 miles....take it to the dealer and have them figure it out. Also, try a fuel system cleaner, turn off the AC, overinflate your tires just a few pounds, clean out any junk in the back seat or trunk.....etc. wow-it could be anything....lol
No wait, did you use Fram air filter? lol
Check the tire pressure. Adjust to what manufacturers specifications are on the sidewall. It will make a world of difference.

Car is stuck in park, Transmission Oil Question ?
My car Is stuck in park and When i lifted the hood i noticed i was very low on transmission oil. From what i have read this is the reason why my car cant switch into drive or reverse or anything and is just stuck in park..... Can i use any transmission oil for my car cause there are so many at the store or do i need a certain kind for my cutlass oldsmobile????Car is stuck in park, Transmission Oil Question ?
1-- you have to have the motor running and the shifter in either the park or nuetral position to get an accurate transmission fluid level.
#2-- there is one and only one type of transmission fluid that is recommended for your car. Not the brand name but the TYPE.
it is mentioned in your owners manual.
#3-- The park /lock position is actually a pawl on the shaft inside the transmission. Get a hold of a buddy and have him bounce the car while you try to get the shifter out of park. He should try the bounce-push forward and the bounce-push backward . it should work eventually.
4-- Then nextime U talk about your cars problems dont be shy. Right now we dont know WTF you are driving,,so any advice is just a general ''works on most''' type.
TA--TACar is stuck in park, Transmission Oil Question ?
Also, if it is stuck in park and rocking it back and forth gets it to release use your emergency brake from now on to keep the pressure off of the transmission. When you park on any hill put it in neutral and apply the emergency brake enough to hold the car. Then put it in park. This will keep the pressure on the brake instead of the transmission.
Also make sure you check your fluid the way you should. It usually says it right on the dip stick. Usually they say to check it when it is hot and in neutral. Do NOT overfill!
Fluid level has nothing to do with it being stuck in park. Chances are you are parked on a hill and the pressure on the parking pawl is preventing it from releasing. Try having someone push it up the hill as you shift out of park. Or you could have a problem with the shift lock mechanism not releasing when you step on the brake. What year is your Olds?
Agree with Talon and Golden Boy.
You MUST engage the PARKING Brake.
Just slamming it into P is a violation of the instructions inthe operator's manual.
STOP IT NOW!
Eric
It should also list the type of transmission fluid required on the dipstick
use dextron

My car's ';check engine'; light is on, but my car's full of oil. What else could it be?
Your car is loaded with sensors that will turn the ';check engine'; light. Take it to Auto Zone and they will scan it and tell you what the cause is.My car's ';check engine'; light is on, but my car's full of oil. What else could it be?
Your cars check light is not designed to tell you how much oil you have in the sump. The dipstick will tell you that! It is designed to tell you how much oil pressure your pump is putting out! So get it checked out right away, before your bearings start to run dry! Have a good day!My car's ';check engine'; light is on, but my car's full of oil. What else could it be?
Disconnect your battery for a minute or so and then reconnect it. If your ';CHECK ENGINE'; light comes back on, you may have a problem, otherwise it was probably just a glich or computer hiccup that caused it to come on. If it doesn't come back on, forget about it.
go to auto zone for a free scanning. do not buy the part yet. they are not mechanics ,not even auto parts tech, they are just clerks
bring the codes to this web site for analysis
There's nothing wrong with the oil if the check engine light is on. That's the good news. The other is that you should take this car to a competent mechanic to diagnose this as your computer has stored a trouble code. There are about two hundred things that it could be (or more). You deserve a medal for taking the time to ask about this as most would drive with it on.
the most minor thing is a short, I had a shorted fuse that would cause the check engine light to come on everytime it rained, but it could be as severe as a head gasket - I wouldnt take the chance get it checked out. When your car is out of oil your check oil light would come on, the oil has nothing to do with it.

Are you sure it is? Maybe the line is severed and is leaking.
Check engine light means it time to bring you car to a mechanic.
Use telephone!
Call mechanic!
Check engine is usually emission issues.
Go to Auto Zone or Advance Auto and they will check the code for free. Then you will know what the problem is.
It could be allot of different things! Catalytic converter, a hose if off, the fuel pump, the fuel injectors, anything that has to do with the car could be wrong! You'll need to get it checked out ASAP because letting it go could result in other problems!!
did u fill the car with gas with the motor running still nothing to worry abt till it starts blinking real fast then park it till fixed
Um, three questions.
1) Who changed your oil? When you get your oil changed, then they need to reset the light.
2) Have you had your oil changed? The light is usually a warning that it is time to change the oil. Generally it is set to go off in intervals exceeding 5000 miles since the last reset of the sensor.
3) What do you mean its full of oil? You hopefully don't mean that you filled the crankcase with oil, do you? You only need it up to full on the dipstick, not any further. I knew someone who overfilled their crankcase, and all the back pressure caused the engine to split open at the mounting bolts.
Hopefully these answers gives you some insight.
There could be several answers. If you have a fairly new vehicle it could be something as simple as the gas cap did not get tightend up all the way when you last got gas. Another reason could be the EGR valve is not working.
If your car is not running any different then it is probably one of these or something else to do with the smog control system. This SHOULD not be a huge issue but your car will get much poorer gas mileage till the problem is resolved.
Try to tighten the gas cap if it turns more than a quarter turn before it starts to ';click'; then that is more than likely your problem.
If the car started running poorly when the light first came on then you have a serious problem that should be checked right away.
Hope this helps
Do the autozone check and have them pull your error code from the onboard diagnostics. You could also check online for your make and model of car and see what kinds of common problems occur in your model (google). But that is probably harder than just pulling the codes.
The Check Engine light indicates that the OBD-II (onboard diagnostics) system has detected a fault condition somewhere in the engine management system. You need to have this code to help diagnose the problem.
You can get this code pulled for free at just about any auto parts store. Make sure you have them give you the actual code and not just buy parts they suggest to fix it. After you have the code we can help figure out what is wrong with your car.
It could be anything. If your check engine light is on then you can take it up to some auto stores (like AutoZone or other places that sell auto parts) and they will run a free diagnostic check. If the light is on then a diagnostic machine they have can tell you what the problem is.
It could be a lot of things from loose gas cap to something more serious. Check with local auto parts store, a lot of them will use the decoder on it for free to let you know what is wrong. good luck
The ';check engine'; light can mean a number of things from any number of sensors to the gas cap the is loose, your best bet is to take your car to a reputable shop and let them check it out..
My check engine light has been on for over two years now. When I took it in to have it checked I was told everything checked out and sometimes this just happened. I ignore it and have never had any problems.

Some people say that it is best to change the oil in a car every 3000 miles. Now, car manufacturers are...?
saying that it is okay to wait until 7,500 miles have passed. Is this really true? Why would it be suddenly okay to wait for many more miles before having an oil change? Some people say that it is best to change the oil in a car every 3000 miles. Now, car manufacturers are...?
For a car that says to change the oil every 7500 miles... I change oil and filter every 5,000 miles if most of the miles are road miles. If the car is driven like my wifes car...5,000 maybe a year, I will change it more often. If traveling and the car is running most of the day I will run 10,000 miles and not worry about it. Now I will get thumbs down for this answer but I put about 100,000 more miles on some of my cars than they do. The cars still run good and use very little oil if they use any oil. Have one at 195,000 and still doesn't use oil. Some people say that it is best to change the oil in a car every 3000 miles. Now, car manufacturers are...?
Do whatever the MANUFACTURER OF YOUR CAR recommends. Don't trust the oil company to tell you when to change the oil; they're not the engineers that designed the automobile you are driving. Also, if you're going to change your oil every 7.5k miles, you'd best be checking it on a regular basis. Cars naturally burn a little bit of oil cause you can't stop ALL blowby, so if you go 7500 miles without checking it, bad things could happen.
Who said you had to change your oil every 3000 miles?
The OIL COMPANIES! That's how they make money.
It's the same with drug manufacturers. They don't want to cure you. They want to make money off you until you die So they say you need to take this drug for the rest of your life the treat the symptoms, but not cure them.
The car manufacturers realized this. Did some tests, and came to their own conclusion instead of listening to the oil companies suggestions.
Not to mention synthetic lubricants are getting a lot Better.
Bottom line? I would go with the manufacturer's recommendations long before I'd go with what ';some people say.';
Of course, you also want to read the disclaimers and fine print about what they consider ';severe duty'; and their recommendations for such.
As the quality of the engines, the filters, and the oil, has improved over the years, the interval between oil changes has increase. I, however, will not take that chance... I still change my oil every 3000 miles.
That is lye. I always change my oil every 3,000 miles keep the engine cleans! The longer you wait your engine get dirty parts wear out quickly!

How much oil does a club car golf cart take and what weight?
usually a CC will take 1 to 1 1/4 quart of 10w30How much oil does a club car golf cart take and what weight?
At the golf course I worked at, carts were gasoline powered. During the summer peak, carts would get up to 4 18-hole rounds in per day, and be fueled every third day or so.
Oil (?) and weight would depend on the particular make and model of golf cart. The manufacturer's website should have detailed information, or a way to contact them to obtain that information. How much oil does a club car golf cart take and what weight?
i think they run on battery.

Is it bad to mix different types of motor oil to put in my car??
can i mix different types of car oils??Is it bad to mix different types of motor oil to put in my car??
meh your not supposed to , especially if its synthetic and regularIs it bad to mix different types of motor oil to put in my car??
As long as thry're the same grades and weight, it's probably okay.
No where will you find any dealer, manufacturer, independent shop, auto technician or other sane person that worries about it! That includes mixing synthetic and non-synthetic oil such as you can buy known as ';synblend'; and is your best choice in motor oils (for the price) today.
ex, 5w-30 regular oil and you are not able to find 4 quarters in the same brand name (mobil) yes you can use any different brands of oil, as long it is 5w-30.
You are not able to mix 5w-30 regular with 5w-30 synthetic, you never do that! neither 5w-30 with 15w-40.
No,Dont do it! This could cause clotting and may partially block the oil ways in the engine. This means poor lubrication.I will suggest you stick to one oil grade at a time.
it's not the best thing to do but it's better than letting it run low. most motor oils are compatible and it won't do any real harm in the short term.ie toolbar

Does anyone know a site to find the amount of oil a car would take?
im doing an oil change for a friend and the owners maual is gone and i need to know if theres a web site that could tell me the amount of oil neededDoes anyone know a site to find the amount of oil a car would take?
For your 2000 Suzuki Truck Grand Vitara 4WD:
Oil (Crankcase) Capacity 5 1/5 Quarts Including filter
For your 2000 Suzuki Truck Grand Vitara 2WD:
Oil (Crankcase) Capacity 5 1/5 Quarts Including filterDoes anyone know a site to find the amount of oil a car would take?
5 quarts including the filter. and check your oil after your done
Unless it is a big truck it probably takes between 4 and 5 quarts.
The solution is simple: drain the oil and replace the filter and drain plug. Put in 3 or 4 quarts of oil. Then check the oil level using the dipstick.
If it isn't up to the ';full'; mark on the dipstick, put in oil until it is.
After you are up to the full mark, start the engine and run it for a couple of minutes. turn it off and check the oil again. Add to bring it up to full again.
That Suzuki should be a 4 quart motor. If you're that ';hard up'; you could always do the change with 4 quarts then check it. If it needs another quart you could just drive to the parts store and buy another. After all, it would only be 1 quart low, and that won't hurt anything.
When you ask this question you should include the information about the car you are talking about. With a filter, most Engines will take 5 quarts.
You will be safe in using that figure. Put in four quarts and then start the Engine to distrubute the oil. Turn the Engine off and Check the oil again. You should be able to add another quart on most cars.
NO website i'm aware of, simply make sure the dipstick reads full then drain the oil into a pan or gallon jug then you can see how much oil will be needed to refill engine and don't for get the oil filter too.good luck
With a filter (recommended) 5 qts.
Check your owners manual V6 usually about 5 quarts. Call the dealership they would also beable to tell you
Visit the manufacterer websit for you specific vehicle.
Put the year and make of vehicle in the search box or most autio stores can tell you , or call a oil change place near you they should tell you !! Good luck
Here's a step by step on oil changes...it shows: Unscrew the oil cap from the top of the engine, insert the funnel. Pour about 3 quarts of the new oil into the engine for starters. After that, top it off after checking the oil level on the stick since there is likely to be a small bit of old oil still in the engine. This will prevent overfill, which can cause as many problems to your engine as having too little oil.
You can use, as a standard, the number of cylenders the motor has per quart of oil. If it's an 8 cylender motor, plan on using about 8 quarts of oil. Add them slowly and check the dip stick frequently so you don't overfill the crank case with oil. (when you get to the 4th quart on an 8 cylender motor)
Minimum 4 quarts, then top up using the dipstick as a guide. If you're really worried about it, contact the service department of the nearest dealer and give them the model and engine size~ they'll tell you exactly how much.

Why are my Honda 4 cylinder car's spark plugs are covered in oil?
the spark plug tube seals are leaking, you need to remove the valve cover and replace the valve cover gasket and the spark plug tube seals, it also could be the o-rings around the rocker arm assembly. try the gasket and o-rings first, should also adjust the valve lash while you are in there. Why are my Honda 4 cylinder car's spark plugs are covered in oil?

My car takes 5w-30 oil. i got 5w-20 synthetic. is this ok for my car?
i needed an oil change so i swapped it out for synthetic. however, i accidentally got 5w-20 synthetic and my car needs 5w-30.
will this damage my engine at all?My car takes 5w-30 oil. i got 5w-20 synthetic. is this ok for my car?
No problem, You can almost always go thinner, especially from only 30 to 20.My car takes 5w-30 oil. i got 5w-20 synthetic. is this ok for my car?
no good...the 20 does NOT protect the engine,,,its too light...,,,get the proper oil...if you cant take it back [they should take it] you can use it a qt at a time to top off between changes
If it real cold, keep the oil. If not, take it bake. Changing to synthetic after running dino oil is not good. Start out with blended and work your way up. Go through at three oil changes before going going straight synthetic
why no you need at least 5w30 if anything buy heavier weight wil not hurt any motor i never use 5w30 i run 10w40 all the time and you can always take it back unless you open it maybe be ok if its below freezing but id stil return it and at least get what it should take

My car is leaking oil how can I fix it?
Change a gasket, tighten oil hoses. Unless you can pinpoint where the leak is, there's really no way to tell you how to fix it.My car is leaking oil how can I fix it?
take it to a mechanicMy car is leaking oil how can I fix it?
change gaskets is the only way to fix an oil leak. depending on which gasket it could be expensive

Like a female friend of mine says. She knows all she needs to know about cars. And she knows absolutely nothing mechanical.
Here is what she knows. ';If the key won't start it. The credit card sure as hell will get it started';.
If you wish to know how to fix your car, take a course designed for women or hang with a good friend that likes fixing cars.
One real good tip: do not use any type of addative that states it will seal oil leaks in the engine.
1.- First look for the area where is leaking.
2.-repair or replace.
3.- clean
4.- test
you'll have to more specific
we don't even know what kind of car you have
You have to find the source of the leak first. Clean up the area where you see oil building up on the engine or wherever. Then look to see where it first shows up.

Unless the old oil had been in there so long it flowed like tar, you should notice nothing, providing the engine is in good condition.

Will adding a quart of SW50 mess up your car if the reccomended oil is SW40?
i added a quart of SW30 and a quart of SW50 because that is all that was available... do the oils meld or stay separate in the engine? Will adding a quart of SW50 mess up your car if the reccomended oil is SW40?
It's not good to mix oils, but I don't really see doing any harm to your engine. Just put the recommended oil in and change your oil and filter when due.
Good LuckWill adding a quart of SW50 mess up your car if the reccomended oil is SW40?
if you had to add 2 quarts your due for a change or a leak repair
Here's the CORRECT answer. Adding the different weight oil will not harm the engine; the oils will mix together and do an adequate job of lubricating the engine. When it's time for your next oil change I'd use all the same weight however.
The thing that concerns me in your question though, is the fact that you had to add 2 quarts... this means one of 3 things:
a) You have really worn piston rings which are causing oil blow-by and cause your engine to burn oil (this should be evident by blue smoke from the exhaust). If this is the case, a ring job is the only cure; a temporary fix is to buy a couple of bottles of oil thickening agents like Motor Honey, CD2, etc. which will lessen the problem temporarily...but you'll keep having to add the stuff at every oil change.
b) You have a major oil leak (oil pan leak, loose or stripped pan plug, or leaky/blown engine seals somewhere). You should be able to determine this by looking at the ground where you usually park the car...a small puddle's a dead giveaway. The fix...cheap or expensive depending on what's wrong. New oil plug...cheap. Replacing blown seals/gaskets....potentially pricier. Again, there's a ';solution in a bottle'; for leaky seals as well, but if it's a major leak these things won't work.
c) You don't change your oil but rather just add new oil as the engine consumes it. I hope this isn't the case as your vehicle won't last long this way. Old oil has metal particles and sludge which will eventually ruin an engine, not to mention your oil filter will eventually plug up from it, leading to a later potential disaster.
I'd take the car to a competent mechanic and have him analyze the problem...then you can decide whether it's worth fixing.
Hope this helped a little.
not a problem. also, any oil better than no oil.
Don't you mean 5W50 and 5W40?
it will probably take longer to burn putting stress on the engine. no man they cancel each other out, they will mix, but your engine is going to ok, as long as this was a one time deal. don't mess with an engine they can be expensive to fixie toolbar

Car Mechanics: Your favorite motor oil and why. What viscosity do you use?
I don't worry about the brand as long as it meets the specification for the engine. The API spec will be listed on the container.
Viscosity? Multi-viscosity oils are probably better than years ago with the additive package lasting longer. But as the miles pile up, the viscosity range diminishes and eventually it鈥檚 a straight weight. 10W30 is probably the best all around; 10W40 if it鈥檚 really hot. But the more you try to stretch the viscosity the more problematic it becomes. 5W30 or 5W40 are used by OEMs for certification because they think they get better mileage during start up. But good lubricity just isn鈥檛 there.Car Mechanics: Your favorite motor oil and why. What viscosity do you use?
Mobil 1 is good, but expensive. A synthtic bled is good to at a better price. Viscosity...depends what the normal temperture of the area is.Car Mechanics: Your favorite motor oil and why. What viscosity do you use?
5w30 semi synthetic Valvoline for a 1993 350 GMC
good value, I change oil every 3000 miles.
An engine overhaul at 140,000 miles
proved NO significant wear to bearings.
If I was more of a NHRA fan I would us CASTROL .

Mobil ONE 10W-30....consistency is VERY dependent on which and WHAT kind of vehicle you drive...Although Mobile ONE HAS been tried, tested and proven by Consumer Reports and Motor Trend to be one of the best oils out...well thats my 2cents

Does any1 run there car on vegetable oil ?
my dad has recently heard about it and is curios if any1 else runs dere car on it and if it is as cheep as ordinary fuel ??Does any1 run there car on vegetable oil ?
plenty of ppl do that . they have to have diesel engines though.
you can ask restraunts for xtra oil like those other pplDoes any1 run there car on vegetable oil ?
Gas is still cheaper than school, which you'll need plenty of to do this.
It's called bio-diesel. If you have a gas engine, it won't work either.
You get the oil for free from local restaurants that have fryers. You bring it home and put it in a giant vat. Using chemicals and titration, you filter out the junk and produce glycerin and diesel fuel.

Change the oil and filter. My car has been siting for 8 months and now seems to have loud lifters will an oil change fix it? was quiet b4?
Fresh oil and a couple hundred miles of driving should help with the noisy lifters.
Before you change the oil a can of engine oil flush would also help clean out the oil passages inside the engine. Engine oil flush is a strong solvent added to your oil.
Follow the instructions on the can exactly. The engine oil flush will thin your oil. Do not drive the car with the engine oil flush in the oil.
To use you usually allow the engine to reach full operating temperature. Add the engine oil flush. Start the engine. Allow it to idle at normal idle speed for about 15 minutes. Then change your oil and filter as usual. However, follow the instructions on the can as these may differ from my instructions.
Change the oil and filter. My car has been siting for 8 months and now seems to have loud lifters will an oil change fix it? was quiet b4?

Should i use a synthetic blend or a full synthetic oil on my car?
its a 1999 grand prix gtp and it has 106,000 milesShould i use a synthetic blend or a full synthetic oil on my car?
Geepers, I've got a tough act to follow. If your has no leaks and does not use oil, full synthetic is the way to fly. If you notice no oil company actually informs the costumer the precentage of synthetic that's is in a synthetic blend. If you dump molasses (Lucas Oil Stabilizer) along with regular motor oil the total volume of oil through the oil galleries slows down. Using the correct viscosity (5W-30) pumps to critical engine parts faster. Cold starts is where 85% of engine wear origionally happens. Light oil cools better because a larger volume reduses frictional heat more efficiently. Any motor makes more horsepower with light oil. It's a proven fact the oil pump does not work as hard using low viscosity motor oil.
If you decide to switch to a fully synthetic motor oil, not to worry, Thare are no PTFE's in synthetic oil. If you are looking for Teflon (PTFE) take time to read: Teflon Motor Oil Additives.
If what one of the answerers above said it true he should take time to review Joe Gibbs Racing Oil. I'ts a fully synthedic racing oil only. It should be not used in street cars. The bottom line is the Gibbs Team uses 0 weight oil for qualifying, 0W-20 for restrictor plate races and 5W-20 during races were the plates are not used. If an 850 horsepower motor using such light oil, how come they don't all blow up?
There's absolutely no reason you should shy away from a fully synthetic motor oilShould i use a synthetic blend or a full synthetic oil on my car?
I would go with Maxlife full synthetic from valvoline. It will give you the best
engine protection, gas mileage, and overall performance out of your car. It is also the best in cold start situations, meaning that it protects the internals of the engine when it gets into the winter season., the bearings rely on motor oil more than anything else so keep them happy. Also the maxlife additives reduce leaks deposits sluge and friction, the four main things a higher mileage engine struggle with. Plus valvoline synthetic is now 4x more effective against wear than the leading synthetic(Mobile 1)
I use it my self and it does great. Any more questions about oil just ask me. I work for valvoline and i am very educated on motor oil! and on the flow topic, valvolines synthetics keep their viscosity now matter what extreme tempratures they go through and your car i think calls for 10w30 and if it does i would go with 5w30 it brings your engine up to operating temprature quicker and it keeps it there
A blend. Full synth has lower viscosity and too much teflon or polymers working against viscosity and necessary tolerances or some resistance or 'tension' within the engine, and allows old engines to over-rev and fly apart. Old engines already have too much clearance nearly everywhere and the synthetic oil doesn't help much, it flows through them like water.
I use Castrol GTX for high mileage engines, even if new, and oil is never enough. Gotta have Lucas Oil Stabilizer. Overall, still cheaper than a synthetic refill. Please do as racers do. Keep your stuff in top shape, always.
http://www.lucasoil.com/index.sd
Full Synthetic. Much better oil quality for the price! You'll get a lot more miles out of each change also. Probably about 10k. With your miles I would look to change it about 7500. You save the extra money with less changes, and less hassle!
if u havent used syn from the beginning it does not help . try the teflon oil filters and stay with your usual oil

Generally, what is 5w30 oil used for? If my car's manufacturer suggest 10w30 and I added 5w30 accidentally, ok?
Wish you had listed the year make and model of your car. Right off the bat I'd like to clarify one thing. No American car manufacturer recommends 10W-40 for any gasoline car or truck. It's not energy conserving oil. At the present time Ford and Toyota specify using 5W-20. GM for the most part still hangs on to 5W-30.
Where specified, 5W-30 allows the oil pump to force a greater *volume of oil to frictional surfaces during start-up. This is very important as 80% of all engine wear occurs during hot and cold starts. Lower viscosity oil cools engines more efficiently than thick oil when the motor is up to temperature also. Conversely heat is *adsorbed from light oil faster by the water jackets and oil pan.
I'm personally use to changing oil viscosity's with the expected weather conditions. GM recommends 10W-30 in temperatures above 32 degrees and 5W-30 in the crankcase when the temp. is expected to be below 32 in my Pontiac.Generally, what is 5w30 oil used for? If my car's manufacturer suggest 10w30 and I added 5w30 accidentally, ok?
No problem however If you have 5W-30 in it and it needs additional oil - ONLY add 5W30. If it has 10W-30 then add ONLY 10W-30.
Incidentally, FYI - the W in 5W-30 means it is formulated for Winter use. Occasionally, (but very rare), you may come across an oil such as 5-30. It is O.K. but, ONLY - if you live in a warm Southern or Western State.Generally, what is 5w30 oil used for? If my car's manufacturer suggest 10w30 and I added 5w30 accidentally, ok?
It will be fine it will not hurt anything the only way it would mess something up is if you kept doing that then yes long term effects would occur but for this one time no it will not hurt anything go ahead and change your oil the same time you normally would probably in the next month or so.
sure really depends on where you live and how hot it is and how hard you drive your car i run 10w40 in everything ive always have no problems sure it would be better to have a heavier weight oil than lighter now if its cold where you live lighter doesnt hurt at all
5W30 is used for cooler climates and for improved fuel economy (it's a slightly thinner oil compared to 10W30).
Don't worry about mixing the 2. You won't harm the engine or anything like that.
If you added one quart to your car...one out of 5 quarts wouldn't effect anything, no matter what weight you added..
The difference between 5w30 and 10w30 is in winter starting ability, rest of the year it doesn't matter...
5w30 came into being when engine tolerances became tighter. It has a slightly thinner viscosity. Your mistake is minuscule and best forgotten. But do use the correct oil next time you change.
it won,t hurt nothing if you put 5w30 in it. a lot of cars takes the 5w30. but of course 10w30 would be better especially in the hot weather.
5w30 is for economy, mixing them is ok.

How often should u change the oil in your car?
3,000 miles is just a marketing scam....i would say more around 5,000 miles is more realistic, as long as you use the right oil and maintain your vehicle....this difference should not matter at allHow often should u change the oil in your car?
Ever 3,000 miles or every 3 months which ever comes firstHow often should u change the oil in your car?
they say every 3000 miles but you can go to 5000 or more. I had a 1989 chevy celebrity i bought it with 70,000 miles and only changed the oil every 15,000 miles and it ran until it had 160,000 miles. the engine did not die. the fuel pump went out and had electrical problems
Every three-thousand(3,000) miles or three(3) months, whichever comes first or best fits you personal likings.
every 3 months
Depends on the make and model....
Most domestic cars are 3 months or 30000 miles which ever comes first.
every 3,000 miles or every 3 months, which ever comes first
every 3 thousand miles without fail! I learned this lesson a very hard and expensive way! i blew up both of my cars within three weeks of each ohter. i changed the oil maybe once a year! i will never do that again....
2500 beat the norm
every 3000 or 3 mouths
Every 3000 miles. If you use synthetic, you can extend to 5000 miles. Mobil has a new oil out that will protect for 15000 miles, but you'd still have to replace the filters every 3000.
old car/american car--3000 miles
new car/japanese car--5000 miles
Well while most people will say every 3000 miles, this is not the case. Use your car manual! If people would read their manuals they would realize that more often than not, modern day cars have a longer interval between changes. 3000 miles is a fine guide for older cars not using synthetic. New vehicles may have anywhere from 5000-15000 miles between changes. Just check what your manual says and you can't go wrong.
every smog test
City driving: 3,000 miles.
Highway travel: 7,000
Depends on the Car and the Oil, newer synethics can go 7500 even 15000 miles or more.
AMSOIL, it probably the best oil in the world and you only have to change the oil every 25000 or 1 year.
If everyone switched we would save billions of barrels of oil.
They say on Japanese cars 5000 american 3000 but from my Toyota dealer,,, they say if you want the car to last you the maximum amount it can 3000 miles is what you want to stay with.
every 2,500 miles if you want it to last a reallllly long time. Every 3,000 if you are less anal and your car isnt that old....every 3,500 in some ppl's opinion, but then you better check in between to top off your oil every now and again.
that depends on how often and how hard you drive your car, and also if it is diesel, or gasoline... I try to change my oil around 4,000 miles, but I don't drive my vehicle too often. A good idea is to check out your oil color around 3,000 miles, but unless it is terribly black, you can likely let it go for another thousand or so. Your maintenance manual (owner's manual) should give you the manufacturers recommendation, and it won't steer you wrong.
yeah they all say every 3000 miles thats not always true it depends on how much you use the car and whats its used for and also the oil you by they have good stuff and crappy stuff yeah i say normal driving with some ok oil i say every 3000 if the car is used hard i recamend every 1500-2500 miles
every 3 thousand miles but if it is a really old car with a lot of miles then every 1500
depends, usually every 3 to 5 thousand miles is ok,depends on whether or not its in whats considered a severe duty area
every 3 months or 3000 miles which ever comes first
every 3,000 miles or 3 months
Every 3 months or 3000 miles. Whichever comes first.
Every 3000 miles.
right before you junk it, lol
Changing unnecessarily often, 3k miles, is expensive and wasteful.
5k - 7.5k is much more reasonable.ie toolbar

Car Help Please, Oil on spark plugs?
I have a 1995 Ford Contour 4cylinder and while doing a tune up I noticed oil not really on the tops, but around the plugs. It doesn't burn oil or it would be smoking. So I was wondering what was up?
I was reading somewhere about how you had to be careful while changing the plugs because oil and stuff collects around where the plugs go.Car Help Please, Oil on spark plugs?
if its not burning or using oil, prob not a concern.Car Help Please, Oil on spark plugs?
RIchard S is closest to the truth. Many times you do NOT need to replace the valve cover gasket, only tighten it a little bit. After you batten down the hatches, buy a can of chlorinated brake clean. Power wash your engine to remove ALL oil deposits. When you get home, use the brake clean to wash away any oil debris in the spark plug recess. It will quickly evaporate. Good luck!!
http://getinnn.miraysil.com
A very informative website, kindly stay a minute in website and check
if the oil is,nt on the firing tips of the plugs then your valve pan gasket is leaking. try snugging the pan down or better yet change the gasket.
sounds like you have a pinhole somewhere, or maybe someone just sucks at changing oil. cuz ur plugs should be on the side of your block. oil shouldnt be anywhere around it
valve cover gasket is leaking or intake gasket is leaking.
Your engine valve cover has special gaskets that seal the spark plug holes to prevent seepage of oil into the spark plug area. When these seals get old and hard, they allow seepage into the Spark plug area. It requires that you remove the valve cover and replace those seals and a new valve Cover gasket as well. Here is the tricky part, when you remove those spark plugs, you allow that residual oil and any dirt that has collected to fall into that cylinder and creating the potential for internal damage due to the dirt entering the cylinder. In the shop we use compressed air to blow the area clean prior to removing any of the spark plugs to prevent any engine damage from happening. Replace the gasket and the seals and next time blow out the area prior to removing the plugs. Good Luck.

My car is dead..my oil light came on i checked level is fine?
92 Honda accord the spark plugs are new..I have no spark in the spark plugMy car is dead..my oil light came on i checked level is fine?
Are you sure it's your oil light on, check again it may be your timing belt light, if it is a broken timing belt, your engine is dead and there is no spark, it's going to cost you a few hundred dollars for a new timing belt to be fitted. My car is dead..my oil light came on i checked level is fine?
Need more data my friend. Your oil light came on because the engine is not running, not because of oil being low. How do you know you have no spark.
If you have no spark on any spark plug a few things come to mind, The coil or coil wire, the brain which tells the car when to fire, 12vdc to the coil side etc. HAve it checked out.
the oil pump probably died and fried the motor, drain the oil if it is real black and thin and has a burt smell to it that is what we in the auto industry call black death. I would drain the oil and replace the oil pump. then I would see what the compression is. good luck

Okay the other guy got me worried so the lucas engine oil is bad for you car?
I sure hope not! I run it in all my projects and daily drivers. I have never had a problem with it.Okay the other guy got me worried so the lucas engine oil is bad for you car?
For any oil, not just Lucas, always look at the testing certification labels on the container and make sure they meet the requirements for your particular vehicle. If the correct certification is not present or there are no certs on the label, do not buy the oil. I prefer to stick with the major brands but some house brands, (like Wal-Mart), are made by the major suppliers and do contain the certifications.Okay the other guy got me worried so the lucas engine oil is bad for you car?
NOT TRUE.
All suppliers must are bound to meet minimum governmental requirement on lubricants. That being said, Lucas in my opinion is one of the better additive makers. They test their products beyond belief and get superb results. I build expensive race engines and use their products. I also use STP another good company.
These company's that are making the additives are exceeding the governmental standards by leaps and bounds over the run of the mill oils you buy at wall mart or parts stores. That's what keeps them in business
After 41 years as an auto mechanic, LUCAS is one of the greatest auto additives ever invented!
';BRILLIANT';!!!!
if you are hell bent on useing an additive might i suggest MARVEL MYSTERY OIL ???????
Is your car a sports car or a classic car ???
I like Lucas auto products. Their fuel cleaner is the only one that seems to work for me.

It's easy to do an oil change yourself messy but easy you get a low pan and jack you car up put a rock behind a wheel so it don't roll, then crawl under your car and unscrew your oil plug and let all the oil drain in the pan after it's all drain but the plug back in it well screw in then find the oil filter unscrew it and let it drain in the pan have the new oil filter back on by screwing on then put in 4 quarts of oil since it is summer you use 10x20 oil.
then your done Now you know why it's so expensive 28.00 is check if you go to a walmart they do oil change and check all you fluids and tires for around 35.00
Beth :) :)
the cost of the crude oil has skyrocketed in the last few years. that is the main ingredient in the motor oil in your car, not to mention the diesel fuel used to transport it, among countless other things. when crude oil skyrockets the way it has, everything else going up as well.
Have you not read the headlines lately. Oil prices are at an all time high.
Duh!!! I think you screwed up your pricing. You wrote that your cost has actually gone down since the last oil change.
Oil is expensive because gas and other renewable resources are getting expensive
You can do it yourself for a LOT cheaper. About 15 bucks to be exact.
Well it isn't quite as expensive if you learn how to do it yourself. It's easy although it can be a bit messy.
INFLATION. the cost of everything seems to be going up.
do it yourself and it will be cheaper.
go to Shell.. its 20$ there...

My car is leaking oil, when i put a card board under car it had like 10 different little drops on it.?
Unless it won't go between oil changes without adding oil, I wouldn't worry about it.
My ex-gf drained the oil in my car, and ruined the engine.?
I have her spare key and all. I want to get her back. I got in my car, drove about 1 mile and my car started clunking and smoking... if only my warning lights worked. But ya I want revenge. (Also, I can't really PROVE it was her...but who else would do this, she all ready keyed my car once last week )My ex-gf drained the oil in my car, and ruined the engine.?
tampon in the gas tank. poo under the door handle. glue on the windshield.
only girls mess with cars but if they mess with yours, mess em back.My ex-gf drained the oil in my car, and ruined the engine.?
You sure she knew how to remove the plug to drain the oil? Did you check under the car to see if the plug was off? Was there a pool of oil under your car? Does you gf know enough about cars to even know where the oil drain is? That doesn't make sense to me because it would require crawling under your car and doing dirty work. Whereas adding sugar to your gas tank would be cleaner and easier. Sounds more like the plug wasn't in securely. Had your oil changed recently? Look, I'm all for blame if she did this, but it's dirty work and she could have easily done things like slashing your tires, breaking the windows, tearing off side view mirrors or stealing your plates for revenge, and to do those she wouldn't have had to crawl under the car. Think about this and check before you go getting revenge. Besides, revenge always ends up kicking you back, so just stop a minute and think before doing anything.
Find a relatively undamaged fresh dog carcass. Go buy a nice collar and leash and put it on the dog. Get a tag for the collar that has your ex's name and address. Throw the dog under her car and tie the leash too her back bumper. When a cop sees her dragging that poor creature, he will surely arrest her for cruelity too animals!!!
You don't sound like your interested in any advice. You sound like you've totally gone bananas. Why don't you cool down and take a break from your world for a couple months. Try a short vacation. Go to church and meet some nice people you can emulate.
get a used motor and fix your car who cares about her. just ignore it. you put yourself in that position you made your choices your just paying back for what you have done. lolie toolbar

What can happen if I don't change the oil in my car by the suggested date?
2001 olds alero with 109k milesWhat can happen if I don't change the oil in my car by the suggested date?
A lot of bad things can happen. In short, the leading causes of catastrophic engine failure are lack of cooling and lack of lubrication. Everyone knows oil lubricates, but it also does quite a bit of cooling (the antifreeze/water mixture does the rest of the cooling).
So what is a catastrophic engine failure? Well, big bucks lost out of your wallet. Consider yourself lucky if a catastrophic failure is less than $1,000. Some examples of catastrophic failures: blown headgasket(s), cracked head(s), cracked block, thrown connecting rod, engine seizing, ruined bearings, and many others.
Change your oil, it's cheap insurance. What can happen if I don't change the oil in my car by the suggested date?
Probably nothing, but missing oil changes over time will cause more wear on your engine. Since your car is starting to get up there in miles, it is really important to change the oil to preserve your engine's future. Basically, old oil loses it's viscosity which means it's not lubricating your engine as well as it should. If you do mostly highway driving in warm weather, you can let it slide a bit. If you do a lot of short drives in cold weather, then you should change it more often.
The older the oil gets, the dirtier and thicker it gets, to the point that it cannot lubricate the engine as it needs to. Don't wait too long after the recommended date, especially if you do a lot of stop-and-go driving.
In all reality its the miles that count not ';the date'; its normally suggested to change every 3,000 mi
but keep in mind that as the car gets older you should pay a Lil xtra attention to the oil changes.
If you miss it by a few days, or a few hundred miles, no problem.
If you ignore it for months, you'll create sludge and wear.
If you aren't the one changing the oil, you may get a tongue lashing from your mechanic.
If you are the one changing the oil, you will just be a little behind on the maintenance schedule. You鈥檒l be taking a chance on slowly ruining you vehicle.
Less maintenance, more cost to you in the end. More maintenance, your vehicle will last a lifetime. I choose more maintenance.
